Nissan OEM are very good.

Bosch, STP, AC Delco also good ones.

Avoid Fram.

If on a budget the walmart ST series are an incredible filter ( for the money)

If not ona budget: Mobil1 , K&N are among the best but cost more than twice of otehr premium filters, so up to you.

Fred...:)

I see the K&N filters go for about 10 bucks at my local kragens. Oem filters are 5 or 6 bucks locally.

Amsoil filters are good, with great capacity which means it can hold a large amount of dirt before it bypasses the oil. Fram and Penzoil... no difference, POS filters. Mobil and K&N also kick arse.

i dont like the nissan oem filter. everyone said its was the way to go, so i tried it. but now, i cant wait to get it off.

it filters great, 2500 miles and the oils still clean. the problem i have with it are the cold starts. let the car sit more than 6 hours and all the oil drains out of the filter, like there is no anti-drainback valve.

maybe i got a dud, put i am going back to the purolator pure one filters. advance and pep boys are the only places i can find them, there about 6-7 bucks. they filter great and retain oil in the filter for the cold start the next morning. i very rarely hear the valves rattling in the morning when i run a pure one filter.

I also use fram, have been for 3 years, never a problem, and I change every 2800 or so. Should you use a different filter if you have a decent amount of mods? Im all stock since its my DD and thats the way its staying.

Fram filters have a very low filter element surface area when compared to other brands like Purolator and Bosch. They also use cardboard endcaps instead of aluminum caps used by other brands. I wouldn't use pennzoil either, because of the high ash content, same with Quaker State. Personally, I use Valvoline 20W50 with a PureOne filter every 2500 miles.

I throw another vote for the "yo" or 55Y0 :)

I used 600U's (300zx filter) as well for a while before they became discontinued or whatever the hell is up with nissans filters.

The cost of the filter is good if your best friend is a tech :)

What's wrong with a lesser filter element surface, and the cardboard endcaps, who says that the other brands aren't just going overkill with too much filtration and less flow. There are horror stories from every type of filter, and fram wouldn't be one of the main manufacturers if their filters were complete crap.

On a side note, my dad has not changed the oil in his 99" Ford Powerstroke Diesel for 105,000 miles. He uses Amsoil synthetic 5w-30 w/ dual bypass filtration, and sends oil samples in every 3k miles, and they have always come back perfect. I dont like the idea, but its his choice and it seems to be working good so far.

Take a walmart supertech filter ($2) and a Fram filter.Cut them both open and you will find the ST to be better made.

If you like the Fram cuz you want the cheapest that will still work you should go with ST.

OEM filters are much better made.

The shock of start-up a dry filter on the rack during oil change collapses a given % age of all new filter elements running cardboard thru your engine.

And you'll never know...

If you cut open Frams compared to an OEM filter, or even a AC delco filter you will see difference.

Bosxch filters arent what they used to be either supposedly but I have never seen one cut open.

I Am suprised that no one posted up this link yet... This site has reviews on oil filter. They don't actually do SAE testing toward how much filtration is actually there. They do, however, gut oil filters so you can see what you are really buying. Hope it help guys.

More surface area means that your oil will be cleaner for a longer period of time. If you change your oil in intervals < 2000-2500 miles, you probably don't have to worry about it though. This is the same reason people buy 300ZX fuel filters instead of 240SX filters (even though some geniuses think it makes their cars faster)

The reason I don't buy, or quit buying Fram is because they don't compare to the other brands. It's almost as if Fram is the "Kia" of oil filters. haha. This study curbed my decision about oil filters:Oil Filter study

And here's an interesting site on oil:Oil study Now I'm not saying you're a dumbass if you use Fram, I'm just saying that from what I have researched online, I have come to the conclusion that I simply don't want a Fram oil filter attached to my engine.

I respect your opinion, but I do change my oil at 2k miles on the dot. My engine has 262k, and when I bought it, there was a Fram on it, so I only assume the previous owner used them too. When my engine kicks the bucket from oil filter failure, then i'll switch; but until then, fram for life!

well I am happily sticking with mobil 1. :) I used to use fram, but like the article states valve tap at startup was just too horrible for me.

I'm with you Zero, I spoil the crap out of my car, nothing but the best of everything. Then again I'm like that with anything that I buy, it has to be the biggest baddest model. Since it's gonna cost some money, I guess it better be damn well the best. Besides who's gonna live forever mwahahaha so I'm spoiling myself to the limits. That's why everyone here has a 240 instead of a metro, coz it's better! That's why I go with the best when it comes to anything.
