More surface area means that your oil will be cleaner for a longer period of time. If you change your oil in intervals < 2000-2500 miles, you probably don't have to worry about it though. This is the same reason people buy 300ZX fuel filters instead of 240SX filters (even though some geniuses think it makes their cars faster)
The reason I don't buy, or quit buying Fram is because they don't compare to the other brands. It's almost as if Fram is the "Kia" of oil filters. haha. This study curbed my decision about oil filters:Oil Filter study
And here's an interesting site on oil:Oil study Now I'm not saying you're a dumbass if you use Fram, I'm just saying that from what I have researched online, I have come to the conclusion that I simply don't want a Fram oil filter attached to my engine.
Toahk wrote:What's wrong with a lesser filter element surface, and the cardboard endcaps, who says that the other brands aren't just going overkill with too much filtration and less flow. There are horror stories from every type of filter, and fram wouldn't be one of the main manufacturers if their filters were complete crap.
On a side note, my dad has not changed the oil in his 99" Ford Powerstroke Diesel for 105,000 miles. He uses Amsoil synthetic 5w-30 w/ dual bypass filtration, and sends oil samples in every 3k miles, and they have always come back perfect. I dont like the idea, but its his choice and it seems to be working good so far.
