When you sit in traffic...do you need the HP? There is a common misconception when it comes to intakes. The reality is that when you accelerate, the underhood temps go down drastically in seconds. The only issue is if you drag race, sitting in the staging lanes it can heat up the intake track and you make less HP...but a long tube design would be even worse.gcirillo wrote:I would favor the long tubes because they clearly draw air from outside the engine compartment. Filters that sit inside the engine compartment (and do not use an enclosure and snorkle like the OEM air boxes) are sucking in hot engine air which limits any HP gains, especially in traffic.
But then why do all the car manufacturers snorkle the air from outside the engine compartment? They could save a lot of money and weight by having the intake sit under the hood.Poyzinous wrote:good job joe. Another thing I tell people, is they don't realize how quick their intake charge is. From the front of the grille to the combustion chamber, air goes from outside the car to burning in a cylinder in a second. How much hotter does the air get? from 87.6* outside, to 87.8* at the throttle chamber?
People confuse CAI with Ram-Air........Ram-Air is a myth.Poyzinous wrote:good job joe. Another thing I tell people, is they don't realize how quick their intake charge is.
