What engines can a ka24de manual trans fit?

Can it fit the sr20, ka24e, etc?

Also, what would you guys prefer to buy:
A ka24de that already has a manual transmission
or
A ka24de with auto transmission and then switch the trans to a manual

Remember that i'm new to this and that I wouldn't know how to do much.
Is it really that hard to put a transmission in an engine?
Any links to documented works will help.

KA24DE trans can bolt right up to a KA24E, but I think you have to swap bell housings for the SR20.

The theory behind buying an auto 240 and swapping it to manual is that the auto 240 was owned by a non-enthusiast, and therefore the engine/vehicle wasn't beat on. Then again, it's a pain in the a** to swap transmissions.

I don't mind buying vehicles from enthusiasts... yes they might rev the engines higher and drive them harder, but they also usually maintain the vehicle better too (everything from engine/trans/diff, to paint, etc).

^ good advice. If youre not sure on what to do its much better to buy the manual trans already equipped. You do have to swap bell housing from a KA to an SR. And also any KA trans will fit any KA engine. The difference in the DE and E is all in the head which has nothing to do with the trans.

Thank you all for the info. I think I'll just go with PapaSmurfs comment for just getting a new ka with a manual trans on it since it'll save time. I really dont know what i'm doing, as well all these complicated parts names. Haha We'll get it all sorted out in the end though!
