Hey, I have a lot of pictures I want to post but I have never looked into watermarking them. I googled it and most ways are using photoshop. I am just wondering what the easiest way is. Also how do you make a watermark? Thanks.

This might sound crazy, but have you ever considered using water to mark your photos and get said "water marks"

Ive thought about it, I have a metric butt ton of pictures.

Hmm, I will have to look into it. Would be nice to just dump all the photos into a program, and let it mark them for me.

Pretty much so people don't use my pictures for anything. I have lots of pictures of mountains and other scenery that would make great posters or post cards lol. I would be pissed if I walked into Rite-Aid and saw other people making money of my pictuers...

So people don't steal them.

OP, I use GIMP. It's basically a free Photoshop. Try it.

I usually use Linux over windows, so photoshop isn't at my disposal. Gimp runs on linux and I love it. I second Otto's suggestion.

people can still claim your pictures by cropping the watermark out, unless you put a huge watermark right in the center. even then, I can still make your watermark disappear as if it were never even there. there is no way around it really if someone wants to claim your picture bad enough. the only real foil-proof way is to put watermarks all over your picture like a tile pattern. lol

if you have photoshop, I can give you a tutorial on how to make a watermark.

Like previously stated GIMP is a good free alternative, but if you have the financial means acquire some version of photoshop- I use CS2- i wouldn't use anything older than CS2

Pretty much just get creative and make it your own, use tons of layers so you can always adjust things, pretty much every different aspect should be its own layer.
heres a few examples of my Watermarks Ive made in photoshop over the years.

I usually tend yo place them in the top right corner, everyone's opinion and eye differs.

Lightroom 3 does. He probably isn't going to go and buy $300 software just for a watermark though.

I use Photoshop CS3

The only photos I watermark are for my Canibeat posts though. I don't watermark stuff on my own blog, takes too much time and I post too often.

I don't watermark anything on Flickr either, I just keep most of my account private.

Here's my watermark using Photoshop. It was quite a pain although I'm sure it gets easier with practice, this was the first and only watermark I have created. I only applied it to the photos that have been entered in shows or competitions, or that I plan to enter.
