For best results, it's been said to shift at ~6200. Beyond that is inefficient,

Shift point vary on different engines with differe KM's... you need to feel your engine out. If is starts to loose power at a certain rpm shift at or right before that point as it's your peak HP point... everything else people say are ballpark figures... only you can decide on the best shift point...

When I had my KA I used to launch at like 4500 and shifted at 5500 or 5600. I have heard rumors about the 91 ka's having better cams at gets a huge power gain between 5000- 5500. I have a 91 at for me it was true. After that the car did not pick up as much so I did not go much past 5500. You shift when the car feels like it doesnt pick up as much anymore. But thats just my 2 cents.

im shifting at 6500 in first, and 6200 for the rest of the gears. It puts you directly into the power in the next gear.

yea, i shift around 6k, but with my apexi n1 dual i smash the powerband in the next gear. i also dont make that much power past 6k, so it only seems like the right time.

practice and about a clutch is needed. too much peeling out is a waste. chirping is a good sign for me after shifting. if I chirp third then it was a good sequence. Although chirping the tires is not the best it tells me that at least I had enough rpms for the next gear.

Also look at the road conditions. I once raced a mini S at the stop light and we both just spun our wheels in front of everybody. Not only were we stupid but we also "looked" stupid. it was so oily at that intersection.

just be ready to replace your clutch and maybe synchros.

i have a stage 3 clutch, so its hard for me to feather it. i drop it at 4K and get an excellent launch with my falken azenis. before i got the stage 3, i used to feather it to minimize wheelspin. i usually shift at 6K, a little after on the 1-2 shift.

Stupid Question, but I gotta ask:Is dropping the cluth considered pushing it in or letting ot out, the same for the pharse "dumping the clutch"?

geez, you guys are going up past 6k? i rarely go over 5600. i feel like the car has a nice solid pull all the way up to a little past 5k then power starts to die off

Have you guys changed your cams or done anything internally? I have a stock KAde with some bolt-ons and it has a nice pick-up at 52-5300. 4000 to 5200 has a nice pull but past 5200, an even better pull. Up to around 60-6200. I shift maybe at 6500 by the time I hit my clutch. BTW, I have 160k on my KA and still going strong.

The best results were found by shifting in the early 5ks. I think it was 5.6. I dont have cams yet. I let out the cluch slowly also.
