Anyone have them, run them, etc...?

I am about to buy some front end upgrades, spl tension rods, nismo power brace, spl inner and outer z32 pro tie rods, yanack steering rack and column solid metal bushings... i also am thinking of buying this yashio factory tension brace for that extra edge in the front end.

It's fairly expensive for what it is, but if it works, hell yea im getting it, if so... what do you guys think?

You don't need it. If you really feel like you do get a ebay/projectsilvia tension rod brace or a nismo power brace.

Yashio Factory Core Support Guard KIWAMI (Same as Driftworks tension rod Brace), Yanack Steering Rack Collar Set (solid metal steering rack bushings), NISMO Power Brace System 2 S13 (version 2? lol same thing to my eyes). 520 Canadian dollars total shipped, teh hot s3x of parts.

Soo now all I need is the steering column bushing, where can I get it? Usually this used to get sold on ebay, can't find it now

And SPL PARTS IF YOU SEE THIS CHECK YOUR EMAIL (nismofly or something on here? lol). I want those spl inner and outer z32 pro tie rods aaand.. the pillowball tension rods

After this, i'll work on the rear end...

I love how people make their threads, asking a question, then completely disregarding the information provided and still doing what they originally wanted to do. Not even waiting for more than one person to respond to the questions.

I don't get it Why make a thread?

As long as it's not a knock off (and i sure as hell hope its not otherwise ill break bones at rhdjapan), who cares?

Looks the same shiznit, here is a driftworks copy of the yashio piece:

Here is the yashio piece installed:

I was joking about pink stuff from Yashio. rhdjapan says they will fit on all the S13/S14 and S15 Body Style 180SX/Silvia's in addition to the R32 Skyline, A31 Cefiro and C33 Laurel, but driftworks says they fit only on s13. They look same to me.

Well I don't know, but I'm guessing it's the same deal as front strut bars that are tension adjustable, they would be interchangeable as long as they're adjustable (at least what I read). Don't know for sure.

By the way, I haven't bought it yet, but just curious.

See the ends of the tension rod... compare the spl to the driftworks one to the sample picture of the yashio piece installed. Whatever the brand of the tension rod in the yashio piece sample picture it looks rubbery/****ty. The driftworks one is mega tight (metal).

The SPL one, is it metal too, its black, i hope its not some kind of loose rubber... I doubt it though, everyone praises SPL. I know I'm sounding like an idiot.

IKEYA:

They look long compared to SPL ones...

Driftworks (heh carbon):

SPL still rocks them all?

They are Kazama tension rods. Actually, I have them on my car. Those rubbers are just the covers. Inside is all same. That rubber is extra piece that they added to keep the debris out. Kazama tension rods are like 2mm thinner than SPL ones. I got Kazama ones cuz I got a deal with tie rod ends/tension rods set. Otherwise, I'd have gone with SPL rods. IIRC, SPL tension rods also have rubber covers. Don't get SPL air deflectors if you lowered your car. Heard that they will scrape. Dan has them on his s14.

BTW, pillow ball tension rods and subframe bushings are my fave suspension mod so far. I love them.

Check these weirdos hehe:

Peak Performance tension rods:

Anyone run them? These look crazy and very different.

Quote »The factory rubber bushing in the tension rod has been known to be a source of many problems with S13/S14 owners. The oil filled bushing is known to burst and cause all types of unwanted and unexpected toe changes. Peak Performance has designed an aluminum T-6061 hard anodized piece that eliminates the weight and maintains accuracy required under race conditions. The Peak Performance Tension Rod allows for caster changes with an easy adjustment nut and uses Aurora rod end bearings, the undisputed standard in the racing industry. With accurate adjustability and stiffness it allows for quicker steering response and greater feedback from your steering wheel which are the key ingredients for a successful drift.
Dude, I've just ordered a Kiwami set too. Couldn't resist either.

I've been thinking about getting a new set of steering rack bushings after I saw positronone's installation write up. Yanack ones are good, but I've heard that they are more for track only cars, so I think I'm going with Nismo bushings. Any thought on this?

Check out this thread. ArcticDragon has Peak Perfomance tension rods on his car.

New factory rubber or NISMO rubber bushings for the steering rack are fine unless you track your car a lot. I stay away from Polyurethane for anything but subframe collars. It's either pillowball joints or harder rubber. Stiff stuff that doesn't give/allow some movement causes stress cracks/fatigue in the suspension arms and the body metal. I had new rack bushings intalled on mine (just regular, not the NISMO ones) and the steering feels much tighter, doesn't bounce as much, responds quicker, etc. I did install Megan T/C rods, and Megan death rod ends ( no problems yet w/mine) at the same time, might have something to do with it. NISMO bushings should suit you just fine.

Have you received yours? I just got mine today. They shipped 2 days ago, and I received it today. It took only 2 days from Japan. Gotta love EMS. Quality is awsome and as you can see on the box, it looks like they originally painted in pink as usual. I'm picking up Nismo steering rack bushings tomorrow. I'll install them this weekend.

Okay, I just installed them on my car. I have 3 way adjustable Progress sway bar in the front, and these Yashio braces cleared it just fine. I would say there's about 3-4mms of space between the Yashio brace and sway bar bracket, but they are not moving parts, so it should be just fine that way. It was getting dark, so I didn't take pictures. My car is still on jack stands, so I'll post pics tomorrow. Fitment is great and installation was easy. Just removed 2 nuts to install them.

Well here's from wikipedia:

Quote »S13: (Abs/lsd package) Front bar 25mm, 21mm in the rear.

S13: (se without Abs/lsd package) Front bar 25mm, 17mm in the rear.

S13: (non se) Front bar 24mm, 15mm in the rear.

All are tubular steel

[edit] Aftermarket Sway Bars

Largus - Front bar 31.5mm, 27.5mm in the rear. 3 way adjustable front only. Tubular steel construction. Stock type endlinks. Largus includes new bushings with purchase

Whiteline - Front bar 27mm, 22mm in the rear. Solid steel construction and 3 way adjustable. Whiteline users their own specific blade type endlinks

Tanabe - Front bar 30.4mm, 22mm in the rear. Tubular chromoly construction. Stock type endlinks

Godspeed - Front bar 30.5mm, 28.29mm in the rear. Tubular chromoly construction. Stock type endlinks. Note this bar uses CRUSH bends instead of mandrel on higher quality bars.

Progress - Front bar 27mm, 22mm in the rear. 3 way Adjustable front & back. Solid steel construction. Progress supplies a heims type endlink on these swaybars.

Cusco - Front bar 28mm, 18mm in the rear.

Suspension techniques - Front bar 27mm, 20.64mm in the rear. Solid steel construction. Stock type endlinks

Intrax - Front bar 29mm, rear bar 22mm. Comes with greaseable bushings/brakets. Stock type endlinks. Adjustable.
So in other words the front swaybar is 2mm larger (27mm) than the stock s13 swaybar which is 25mm. If there is 2-3mm more, then... we can fit something that is 29-30mm (touching). Well only way to find out is by testing.

However, the whiteline fronts are 27mm as well just like the progress swaybars and the guy above said it did not clear his... so.. thats a mystery right there... unless someone can shed more light

I have a pretty good idea. I think it depends on bracket design. Progress sway bar bracket is just a little larger than the stock. But bushing is thin, so it can hold thick sway bar. You know what I'm getting at? I still have a stock sway bar and brackets, so I'll take a picture of both of them side by side tomorrow.

Here you go. It's close, but clears fine.

Just picked up Nismo steering rack bushings today. They are stiffer than I thought and part numbers are:

Driver's side: 54444-RS520Passenger side: 54445-RS520

I just removed old bushings tonight and driver's side bushing was not easy to remove. I ended up jacking up the steering rack like an inch, and it finally came out.

I'll try to take a picture of brackets tomorrow.
