Just what do the new Infiniti's have I don't? As a matter of fact what does any new car have I don't? I took my old 2004 M45 out the other day and blew the snot out of a new 5 series BMW. I have done the same to the high HP Mustangs and many newer Infiniti's. All they have is new bells and whistles. I'll take my old dog car out any day and it doesn't have all the newest gadgets that add nothing to performance and beat you into the ground on a 0-60 or 1/4 mile or an all out top speed run. Infiniti is losing its market place as a high performance luxury sports sedan. And so are many others.

I'll keep my old dog maintained, see you on the road. Just watch out when you see a rare bird that you don't know what it is when you try to take me on.

Infiniti will be completely changing its brand around these next years, so I expect them to start being more highly regarded. As for what you dont have that they do, its basically as you said. Technology bells and whistles. Although the newer years of cars tend to get a bit better gas mileage too, and small increases in HP. You just have a really nice car that people dont realize just how powerful it is, the 2003-2004 M45's always catch people by surprise.

I love my "sleeper". I hope Infiniti goes back to its original roots and makes a high-end luxury, large, sports sedan. If not, I will keep my old dog M45 for as long as I can. When its time to retire the old dog I guess I will have to find another old dog high end luxury car. God, I wish they would come out with a V12. I would be all over that like stink on shxx!

ROFL, Antzrus :rotfl

I protest that you must have stolen our gun! An M777 155-mm howitzer is certainly a bigger gun than the .45 caliber that myother45isalesbaer claims to have. However, the one you are showing isn't yours! We still need further proof that you really do have a bigger gun in order to back up your claim. ;)

While the M777 is currently the largest towed howitzer used by both the US Army and the USMC, it is also the howitzer of choice of the Canadian Army. The actual gun you are showing is clearly a Royal Regiment of Canadian Artillery piece. You can clearly see the two soldiers are wearing CADPAT (Canadian Disruptive Pattern) uniforms and the vehicles in the background, including the Iltis 'jeeps', clearly identify the gun as Canadian. I am not sure of the exact location of the picture, but it looks like it could be CFB (Canadian Forces Base) Shilo in Manitoba.

Never mess with a son of a gunner! :nono: :chuckle: My father was an RCAF officer for almost 30 years and prior to that a CSM with the 7th Toronto Field Regiment, Royal Canadian Artillery, and I grew up on bases all over Canada. We await your proper proof, because for now it looks like we have the bigger gun!! :poke:

My apologies to the OP for temporarily taking the post off-topic, but I couldn't resist a chance to respond to Antzrus' typically great and usually sarcastic humour! So as to keep this somewhat on topic, I agree that the biggest differences between the OP's M and the newer ones are primarily bells and whistles; but I still love my GPS, NavTraffic, voice recognition, AWD, heated and cooled seats, integrated Bluetooth phone, XM radio and the list goes on and on. It isn't just about horsepower and torque, although my M45X has plenty of both of those, too! Anyway, to each their own. :dblthumb:

Wow! Interesting post. The 155 I remember was the M114A1; when we used to hide far out in front of the wire behind the damn things. Your whole body vibrated when they spit out their rounds-and this was in 1969-70 before we thought much of ear protection. Maybe that's why I've never complained about the Bose 5.1 OEM stereo system so many dislike.

M114A1 (A fine picture of the old beast)

But--pictured is my current gun. I guess the Les Baer does out class me...

Gentlemen,

No problem getting off the topic. I love my M45, heavy arty and my Les Baer. If they would make a car like that arty piece I would be in heaven on earth.

Antzrus, you are a hoot! LOL.

Antzrus, you continue to amaze me! :lolling:

Assuming the "firing" (clothes) pin on your current gun is about 3 to 4 inches, I estimate that you have about a 35 to 50 mm projectile on that thing, which I accept as proof that you have the bigger (bore) gun, compared to myother45isalesbaer, although it still doesn't come close to the M777. I also love the built-in additional ammo supply holes on your gun, but you are going to be significantly short compared to the Les Baer's magazine, unless you are towing a supplemental ammo limber!

In any case, if you ever do meet myother45isalesbaer in person, I respectfully suggest you lay down your weapon and concede defeat, since as we all know, size isn't everything! :bowrofl: Just my recommendation: us old farts have to stick together and look out for each other. :wavey:

I too love my M45X and when I bought it there were very few vehicles under $80,000 (CAN) that could take it. While my boy racer days are long over, I am not totally immune to the occasional challenge, and have been known to sometimes (to the annoyance of the MRS.) shut down and teach a lesson to some uppity young'un in an over-modified rice rocket. She just doesn't understand that male competitive thing!! Having said that, as I have gotten older I have come to enjoy and appreciate my creature comforts, too. So to me my M is the perfect blend of lots of power and driving comfort, and I don't intend to get rid of it anytime soon! :bigthumb:

P.S. I am also very happy with the 14-speaker Bose 5.1 system in the car and my ears were never subjected to close range heavy artillery! I have studied music formally and have a pretty sophisticated (and powerful) Yamaha/Polk Audio surround-sound system in my entertainment room. With the ambient noise in a moving car, I think a lot of these guys that complain about it are being overly critical IMHO! Most of them also never experienced the early single speaker radios and AM transmissions of cars in the 1950s or 60s. We have come a long way!

quinner49er,

Many smiles and laughs when I read your post. Antzrus is a joker and maybe even a midnight toker. Too funny, but us older guys have to keep together as you say. I agree strongly that we need to show those young'uns in over modified rice rockets what a true old man's car can do. A nice high HP sports luxury sedan can take them on and I like you love to do so. Enjoy your M as I do mine.

Yes, the M does seem a perfect fit/demographic for codgers like us; luxury and sport in one gorgeous package. It astounds me that so many young whippersnappers grab a hold of these same machines and do all kinds of plastic surgery upon her.

Thankfully, as Ive so keenly noted before, guys (the mature set...) like you, Les Baer and myself add a more mature, august and respectable tone to this list.

Gentlemen,

Thank you both for your kind comments. We all have a lot in common and also hold a very serious responsibility on this forum. ;) We bring the advantage of years of experience and as Antzrus has said on more than one occasion, a certain 'gravitas' and respectability.

In all seriousness, if either of you ever get up to the Toronto area for some reason, please feel free to let me know. I think we all share many interests and viewpoints, let alone history, and it would make for an interesting time. The Les Baer would have to be left behind, since you won't be able to bring it over the border! :nono: On the other hand, Antzrus, I think your "gun" would probably make it past customs without having to be registered, but you never can tell! :gotme

Both of you enjoy the rest of the Easter weekend. Any day with laughter is a good day. It has been a slice!

Back on topic...for what's the Y34 lacking that you might notice...some things are:
6th gear
tougher leather on the steering wheel
Bluetooth technology
HD storage for music
Rear audio jacks
Additional 12v power points
Updated Nav
Rear sunshade
USB input

Other then 6th gear, to me the list is a matter of convenience only.
I'm keeping mine too.

I am partial to the 2006 styling, but I agree that there is no reason to "upgrade". Perhaps I will get bored, but I'm REALLY trying no to. You can see from my list of cars that I get bored easily (and those are only the Nissans I've owned).

Double E,

Exactly my point. Who needs all that stuff? I don't. When I take my M out its all about the car and not the nice to haves. When I bought my M new from the dealer he said to me the first thing most people ask is where are the cup holders? He went on to explain the M is light on cup holders. Which it is. My response was I don't care about any "stinkin" cup holders, lets take this thing out on the highway and see how much balls it has. He was shocked! Even more shocked when I wound it up to 100mph+ and told him I would buy it now, cash on the barrel head as they say.

Glad you are keeping yours. I am keeping mine. Just wish it had more cup holders. LOL.

you don't have rear reclining and heated seats and dvd player, neither does '13 model...
also to note after 06 model year changes M sales increased several fold, you can't argue with success.
Overall if you are happy with what you have that's all that matters.

Whoa cowboy. I do have reclining seats that are heated. Also have 5 disk CD player. I can argue with success. I am happy with my old M and I am not looking to start a war. Success in one battle does not win the war. I don't miss the items you mention one single bit. If you like yours, keep it. I like mine and hopefully we can meet on the road some day and when I am done cleaning your clock you will tell me how those gizmos helped you out. LOL.

Myother, check out my totaled Y34 story. You'd be surprised at what's out there these days but even so, I'm still pleased with mine...

Oh and the reclining seats refrenced by Iconic concern the rear seats and the Y34 didn't have that.

Opps....got me. Who needs reclining rear seats anyway. I only sit in the driver's seat. When I'm driving and burning gas like a Sherman tank I doubt anyone in the back is going to be reclining. This is not your living room or time to relax when I'm at the wheel. ROFLOL.

Nice!! Keep the stealth!!! I have to agree with you about "newer" cars overlooking older rides :)
A lot of guys see my badge (M35) and think I'm easy prey.... Then, um, surprise!!!! Then when it's all said and done, I always hear, "what you got in that thing?"..... I just say, it's just a V6 with some guts!! Hahahahah.... I'm close to 300whp :)

I'll keep my old V6....gonna pick up an old V8 as well....05 E55 (Kompressor) woooo hoooo!!!

That's not gonna happen, if anything Y50 is a tad faster around corners.

Not to take anything away from the older models, but one thing you usually can't quantify is that newer models tend to be safer cars in that they will protect you better in a crash.
