If I wanted an awesome music system, which I have, I don't give a hoot about what's in my car. So I agree with bejjutsu 100%. When I am cranking my old dog M I turn the music off so I can concentrate on fast but safe driving. As for the safety issue, I really don't care what's in the car as the biggest safety item is the driver paying attention to the road and not playing with his music devices or talking on the phone. As for taking me in the corners, maybe you can, maybe you can't. That all depends on who is the better driver.

If you like what you have, KEEP it. I love my old dog 2004 M45. In my OP I don't need all the bells, whistles and gizmos. I have plenty and maybe too many. As I said in my original post what do you have in a sport luxury sedan or any car on the road today have that I don't have. Mine with 34K on it still runs like a bear. That are not too many cars out there that can knock it off. If I had to replace it I would have a hard time finding a new one that has the performance and luxury without all the gizmos. Motor on my good friends. I am still looking for those most important cup holders. LOL.

I have read many of your posts. I know you love your M as I do mine. I often wonder what you would pick for a new ride. The reason my mileage is so low is I have a little around town scooter car. I also retired 1 month after I bought it at the ripe old age of 52. The later is a long story as how I managed to do that. If I can't give the M at least an hour run or a nice long highway trip it stays home. These old M's don't get the respect they deserve. I wish Infiniti would bring some version of them back. I like you keep it well maintained. Over the years it has given me little to no problems. Last year I had to spring for some Conti DWS tires. That has been my largest expense so far, but the Conti's are great.

Many posters are going to think I am full of it, but my wife and I went to the Canadian side of Niagara Falls and made it back to our driveway in Windsor, CT in just under 6 hours. The clock started when we left the Hotel, went through customs and continued on. If you do the math, that's about 600 miles in less than a tad under 6 hours. If the M was not what it was built to be I could never have done that. Just lucky some police officer didn't catch me running 120+ for about 2 hours. Lucky my wife wanted to see if we could do it that fast. She was watching the clock on our Garmin and keep telling me to speed up. That was a very intense 6 hours but we both loved it. Besides flying a jet plane, that was one awesome trip.

^ great driving trip :)

I love CT !!! My wife is from there and as a matter of fact, we are awaiting our flight back to Cali after our week long stay in CT :)

I was just in the 95 fwy heading to JFK and came across a car show gathering by Norwalk.... It was cool seeing the cars, but I must say, I wish I had my M just to test out some of the competition :). A lot of VWs on the stretch we passed... BTW, there was a fixer upper that was stranded on the side since his front bumper fell off.... Damn shame! He was sitting too low and must have bottomed out or just didn't mod his car properly... Looked like a 240sx...

Overall, I'll keep my M so when we move to CT, I can meet up with my fellow NICO mbrs on the East Coast!!!! Ride on Ms

I have to ask, where in CT? If you like some nice curves with decent straights try the Merritt when it isn't rush hour.

Well, made it back to Cali...gotta adjust my body now

We have family in Milford, Shelton &Branford... I spent a day with a buddy in White Plains NY so driving back to CT that day I took the Merritt back up to CT.... You're exactly right about the curves and straights.... Very nice... Unfortunately I had the rental car....SUV so couldn't really "enjoy" :ohno:

I will attack the Merritt when I have my M there :dblthumb:

I must say, the roads in NY are ruff.....POTHOLE CITY!!!!

The few times I flew to CA It took a few days for me to adjust both ways. I don't do well with the jet lag and time zone changes. I have been to most of the towns you mentioned. I am in Windsor about 5 miles away from Bradley Airport and almost into Granby. Too bad you didn't have your M to run the Merritt. NY potholes are a nightmare. Funny story on running the Merritt. I was pushing my M to get home from my brother's house in NJ. As I was enjoying running the Merritt I keep watching in my rear view mirror some guy that keep gaining on me. This went on for miles and I thought police so I started to back off. He was in a black car. So finally this guy passed me and what did he have, another M. Too funny, but the game was on. As I gained on him traffic got in the way and I lost him.

The Merritt is almost like a pro road track. Readjust and hope to see you in CT.

If you like it, keep it. I don't know what to do with 5 gears. A few more would be nice, but how many do you need? HP is not all it's cracked up to be. It's torque that gets the job done. I used to drive an old farm tractor with 10 gears. Hardly ever used more than 4. Technology is wonderful, but who needs it? Glad you like the way the old M's look. Don't mean to be rude, but I can motor pretty good with five gears and no technology unless its engine related. Then I wonder are we just techno'ing these cars out for sales. My old farm tractor now is hydrostatic. Motor on my good friend. I see you are a first time poster. WELCOME to the weird world of us NICO guys. Everyone has an OP and are welcome to share it. Keep posting!

I usually refrain from this type of post, but ....

I am glad your wreckless careless driving trip endangering not only you, but other innocent drivers on the road allowed you to satisfy some sort of adrenaline irresponsible rush. It is things like this that make me wish some people were not allowed to procreate.

Thanks for the slam. In certain ways you are right. I bet you are all for more safety items in cars, gun control and many other things I do not agree with. I do not have any children, so much for your procreation comment. I also wish some people were not allowed to procreate. Maybe you need to sell your M and buy a Volvo. I also wish people would turn their music down and stay off their cell phones. The later are more dangerous then me breaking the speed limit on the NY Thurway with no traffic on it. Enjoy your M and stay off the cell while doing so, please!

kluken Sir,

If it makes you feel any better, I have been trained in high speed driving and other things by one of the State Police in my tri-state area. I am now retired. If you read any other of my posts and read between the lines you could have figured out that I was not the average citizen owning a nice Infiniti. I have never mentioned this before. There is a reason why and I cannot discuss it any further.

Enjoy your M as I do mine.

I've also done the Merrit in my M. Just after the Sikorsky bridge is when I get excited... Hate the deer at night though.

Check out the story on Post 24. http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f13/has- ... ly-147675/

Double E,

Deer at night are very dangerous especially if you hit one. As an old time Harley driver you need to slow down big time. Glad you liked running the Merrit. Its a fun road. Been over the Sikorsky many times.

wingFeather,

I could not agree with you more. I was shocked at the statement. In my OP these kind of posts do not belong on a car site we all enjoy. I'll give the guy a break this time. Lets get back to posting about our cars and not our politics is the best I have to say.

Double E,

I just read all your posts on your site. Excellent. Some people need to go to anger management school and stop this road rage nonsense. We are supposed to be a polite society. As one that has a permit to carry a concealed weapon I might, but hope to never have to, feel the need to act in self-defense.

Lets get back to our cars and enjoy this site for what it is. Enjoy you M and thanks for your post.

Oh so he endangers the general public and I need anger management? Training or not it was wreckless and endangered others for no reason. I get speeding to a point, had he had an accident and killed someone would everyone be defending him or saying or what a jerk? Sure my comment was strong, but guys give me a break, he was 50% over the highest posted speed limit anywhere in the country. When you are on public roads used by everyone you have need to act responsibly. I am not pretending to be the role model of driving, but I feel that was not safe regardless of training. Have any of you actually witness the aftermath of a deadly wreck at a fraction of the speed he was traveling? At 120MPH I doubt the there would be nothing recognizable in the wreckage.

Agreed, and I apologize for the harsh reaction, but unsafe drivers, cells, texting, excessive speeding, whatever just push my buttons as I have seen some carnage that leaves a deep scar.

I am not looking for a war. You have made some very good points. The story I told was a one shot deal never to be repeated again. Yes, I admit that one mistake on my part at those speeds would have left nothing but wreckage and at least two people dead if not more. What I did was unsafe driving, I admit that. 99.9% of the time I drive at posted speeds or 5 MPH over on highways only. Let me be honest, I was on a road with almost no other cars that was straight as an arrow. I was not getting a rush. I was in fact scared. Scared that the car itself would blow a tire or in some other way break down and I would lose control and crash. When I came upon traffic I slowed down to normal speed limits. Police officers are trained at high speed driving. Would you say the same thing to a Police Officer in a high speed pursuit? I still think you need to go to anger management school just by the statement you made that certain things "push your buttons". I make no apologies to anyone for what I did. There are worse things going on in this world than one person trained in high speed driving doing so. Just as an example, do you have the same objection to a pilot who is drunk/doped up/too tired flying a plane with 100's of innocent souls on board and not only risking his life but of his passengers too?

It scares me more to get on a plane. The pilot could be impaired or lack of needed repairs on the plane could cause a crash of which I have no control over. Think on that one, which is only one of many unsafe practices that can take human lives.

That we have in common, I like to say when it is my time to die, fine, but I don't want to go when it is the pilot's time ;-)

Like that idiot helicopter pilot last week that crashed because he was too busy texting and forgot to check his fuel. I will agree I feel safer with my in control of a car at fast speed than trusting someone else to fly me, even though stats are on the side of flying.

FYI, I was also not looking for a war, just voiced my opinion and I agree part was uncalled for. Like I said just hit a nerve. But I do believe in to each his own as long as no one else is being harmed. So do enjoy you Infiniti as I truly enjoy mine.

I am happy we agree. Texting while trying to run any mechanical device is unsafe. The pilot should have known better as should everyone else regardless if they are flying, driving, boating, etc. To me doing any of the later, including talking on the cell or anything that takes your attention away from the machine you are operating is akin to drunk driving. As a matter of fact one of my pet peeves, but not a major one, is people operating lawn tractors and listening to music on their headphones. That comes from driving farm tractors where you better be listening, paying attention to any piece of equipment that can potentially kill you or anyone else who is working with you.

Enjoy your M. From your pic its a nice looking ride. I'm taking mine in for an oil change and a look see inspection. I love my old dog M and intend to keep for as long as I can. I also agree that when its my time to go I don't need or want any help from anyone to get me there.
