ok heres the deal, my girlfriend's ex just bought what i think is a 1990 ford probe. (i know it's a probe, just not 100% on the year). she and i both want to go race this guy in my 1990 240SX fastback. they're both standard's, but i know how to drive mine, and i think he's a bit rusty. i think i will probably be able to take him, as i dont think it's a GT, but i want to make damn sure i can win, because its like symbolic or something i cant really put my finger on. anyhoo, back to the point: what do i need to do to my car to win? i have the cat and resonator taken off of the exhaust, and i think im doing a custom short ram intake with a k&n cone, and ive got some royal purple gear oil in the transmission. im also thinking of advancing the timing, running it leaner and running premium gas? any thoughts?

i know, but theyre really close in numbers. apparently the 240 runs 16.5, and the probe is suposed to run 16.2. i should be able to take him with a little bit of work, and i dont want to spend a fortune either.

uhh...u shoulda got an s14...they'll run a 15.6 or so with less than 1k invested in bolt ons...

best bet? drop off ur exhaust from the cat back...

cut a hole in the bottom of your airbox...then route some pvc to an air intake hole in ur bumper...

that'll give u 2 hp or so lol...

Um...how are you guys racing? What kind of start, to what speed or distance? If the cars are similar you can win with some strategy...btw, is street racing legal to discuss on these forums? On some it's a no noAnd mainevent212, you're a funny guy! A realist ;)

ya, he definetly knows the 240 to a tee. street racing can be talked about, but its frowned upon. we'll probably go to the track, so it'll be a good clean quarter mile. i'll go for a good shallow stage so i can get a lower ET, and im pretty sure i can drive stick batter than he can, as driving is one of my passions, and i learned on a stick. any other tips guys?

lmao..no doubt man..

i'd give the jack/spare and **** at least 15 lbs..

the passenger seat should be a good 25 probably...then the rear is 15...

the rear is ALOT of work to take out and mostly permanant...

hehe spare change will save weight...

i kno a lil about these cars...still ignorant compared to alot of these guys here by a long shot though...

i'm workin on it

BTW i'm a 16 year old kid with a wickedly sarcastic sense of humor...

first off, you better check if its a GT, b/c if it is he will more than likely beat you, but if not i think you should have a pretty good chance doing what was said above/\.....

good luck, let us know what happens

and i know about the weight on the s14, but if i would have bought a 1991 instead of a 1990, i would have got the weight of an s13, but the power of an s14

Duuude, I know exactly what you're talking about. It's something like, losing is NOT an option. You gotta beat this guy! If it's a quarter mile street race, I'd find a way to cheat. If it's at a track, then I'd do the next best thing to cheating, 50 shot of NOS. Get some NITTO street slicks, light weight reduction, and run open headers. That's what I would do.

yeah...i hear the cat helps keep power on the low end...u need a lil backpressure since theres really no power in the stock engine...

intake...pulleys if u can i guess?

nitrous if u can

do WHATEVER you can!

do u have DOHC KA? When i had my girl (dohc) i consistently walked all over probes....GT or not, it didn't matter. Though there was one that was close until really high 3rd gear.....but still, moral of the story: they all lost

Sorry - I've got this mental image of two guys in soapbox derby cars leaning forward in the seats to try to go faster....LOL.

Every 100 lbs shaves roughly .1 off your 1/4 mile time.

I'd recommend: Clean your intake and TB, put in some new plugs, flush your injectors, buy 10 gallons of race fuel (small airport), advance the timing, inflate F tires to 50 psi, take out excess weight, and take a good healthy dump before you race. :D

with just a few mods you shoud be able to beat him, what people don't understand about 1/4 mile times given to cars tested from the factory is that they are the fastest that u can go,

the probe may run 16.2 but if the guy doesn't know what he's doin he might run 17.0 or a slower time

also, besides weight reduction and adding mods, giv your car a full tune up, make sure it is runnig at its peak

if the other guy is a bad driver and hasn't had his car serviced, you shouldn't have a problem

oh yeah, good luck
