See this is a common misconception. Just because you have ABS doesn't mean you have a VLSD. There were a lot of cars like this, but not all... They were both options. Someone buying the car may have opted for the VLSD and not the ABS and vise versus.... A kid I knew had ABS in his car but did not have a VLSD. Get your facts straight.

hmm, never thought about that. i guess you would have to know if the car came equipped with the "sports package" or just the abs or vlsd options

It kind of depends on the unit and the driver knowing the car already. One of my friends has the Nismo GT Pro(I think thats it) it locks HARD and exceelent.. locked up on him while driving on parkway lolMy other friend has the regular Nismo 2way it streetable, I drove it with zero issues. Just learn how it reacts and don't drive like a a$$.

I was going to buy a VLSD but I opted not to pay more than 150 as its not worth more than that. What people fail to see its a sealed unit. Thus when that fluid is cooked it will start to act like a open diff. So if anyone plans on buying a vlsd at least buy a low mileage s14 or J30 vlsd less likely to be abused.

i also heard putting in heavy duty truck gear oil will help lock that vlsd a lot more often

Whoever told you that is wrong like I stated a vlsd is a sealed unit. When you change the fluid your only changing the fluid the ring/pinion mesh. If you put a vlsd, open diff, lsd side by side by side you'd understand. Maybe come spring I'll get around to doing on reference web pages of this with pics and other usefull information.

i have done some events with an open, but now i have a welded, and it definetly is 50x better. its not too bad daily and rocks on the track. kamin why are you ragging on them so bad, there a nice, easy, cheap alternative to get a diff to do what its supposed to do during drifts, lock up both wheels. maybe there is a more complicated approach at looking at it and why they 'suck' but from what ive seen it works pretty darn well.

so what got suspended? He did, or his diff did? lol, i'm hella cunfused here.

Anyways, some1 was sayin that if you put "thick truck diff oil" instead of what ever is recommended will help lock up the diff is a funny thing i read a while ago. No it wont actually touch the "viscous goo", only the outter parts like the spider gears on open diffs. And i guess cuz the "thicker oil" makes those gears lock better cuz its not as slippery as the thinner stuff. lol yea, excuses people come up with to make themselves feel better about their vLSD or open diffs. EDIT: I guess this was from open diff guys only...still dumb either way.

I love my welded, I love my car, i love that its drift season again!!!
