Car: Better than yours.

Post

[QUOTE]Originally posted by Rex "]Better stated, but I think we mean/meant the same thing. The average Subaru buyer (in the early 90's) was not expecting the price/cost/performance this car had to offer. And the people that bought these "performers", that weren't Subaru people, thought they could abuse and replace the parts cheaply like they may have done on their GM, Ford, Honda, etc. I think it got an unjustly bad rep. I always thought they were way ahead of their time by offering a true AWD sports coupe in that price bracket, even Audi wasn't doing it well at that time.

My point was you can't compare it's upkeep to a DL :D

<where in Ellicott City?>

I live in Columbia Hills, a few miles outside of E.C.

The SVX was a marketing disaster. Most yuppie types didn't associate Suby with luxury. Subaru should have renamed the car Alcyone, which is what it was labled in Japan. How may SC300/400 luxo-coupes would Lexus have sold if they came with a Honda badge on 'em?Perception is everything in successful marketing. The good news is, they're relatively dirt cheap on the aftermarket.

No, he was just stating that so many more would have been sold if it had been marketed and sold via the Honda/Acura name.

I think Subaru intended it to be a Luxury (sport) Coupe, much like some MB coupe's are luxury cars.

Sorry - I should have made a Nissan/Lexus or Toyota/Infinity comparison (no offense). Someday I'll remember who begat what.Similar conclusion though.

nissan = infinititoyota = lexushonda = acurareal vs. name to cover up japanese origens to people who dont know better

really if its just a winter beater car get a cheap honda accord, its the most reliable choice you could make.

In my experience, any of the following will be a cheap, rock-solid reliable car:-B13 Sentra, GA16DE might not be a a powerhouse but it's bulletproof, and the B13's handling makes them fun to drive even with the GA.-3rd Gen. (86-89) or 4th Gen. (90-94) Honda Accord. The earlier ones can be quite slow but again totally reliable except for some driveline and front suspension components, namely CV joints and ball joints.-Civic, pretty much any generation, again watch for the CV's.

Well my brother had a 1999 model and he got 130,000 out of it befor the trany shelled out but other than that it was a good car. The 98 and 99 models were about the same. In 2000 they upgraded some featurs like more sound dampening and they took away the power button or the auto drive off button. Other than that it should be a good car.

Car: preludes and girls and 240sx!

yea, I have a 95 prelude SE(still got it) and i wanted a college "beater". So, I bought my friends 92 mint SVX for dirt cheap cause he was moving to japan. all i can say is WOW!, let me stress the WOW part of WOW. it is a fantastic car. solid, luxurious, torque of a nissan(relative), refinment of a toyota, and well, umm, durable like a honda, i guess. rides like a dream, comfortable, unique, smooth, and the interior was quality(leather all option), exterior build was solid, you can tell the designers put lots of work into it, metal thick and strong. Durable but not always reliable, the transmission and bearings have been fixed by him. yet, it was just to costly to keep as a freshman in college, premium gas, bad gas milage, expensive maintance, and just to damn pretty to see beaten up by other careless college student. so i sold it and made a freakin killing of this guy that wanted it. I kinda regret selling it, i simply miss have a nice car, my 240 is rough, clunky, not rattles,, but its reliable, kinda fun, amd low/cheap maintance. .......i miss my SVX, when i sat in that car, i felt so personlized and safe, not an immature rice beater.

sorry guys, im kinda sad now cause i miss it, anyways, my sugesstion

-corolla(cant go wrong, good gas milage, but they arent fun)-prelude(fun, reliable, economic, cheap, but not too much space)-legacy(dont think so)-1st gen legend(typical nice honda, reliable smooth roomy but slow) -integra(see prelude, but i prefer ludes)-sentra(see corolla)stanza(pretty tough cars, again, boring, but dont say that to the people on teamnse.com, they think its the s***)-celica(surprisingly cheap for what u get, typical toyota reliable, good gas, etc softer riding than preludes)-323GTX(i wouldnt consider this a beater, some people worship it)-vigor(so so car, pretty cheap, get a legend instead)-1st g altima-ugly, see stanza)

i can go on and onit comes down to what u want and what you NEED. smooth comfortable ride and effcient, practical or.....less practical but more fun, ie preludes hehe

R U SERIOUS

SVx is premium only.

that is a serious factor with gas prices at 2.00 a gallon, combined with it being a gas guzzler

also how can it be durable and not reliable?

What are you talking about. 240 is fine in the snow as long as you know what you are doing. I got a 89 automatic. Thing handles icy roads far better than my jeep. When I need to make a sharp turn a little pull of the hand brake to swing the rear and some taps of the gas and off I go. I zip past everyone one on the highway when it is icy while they are all over the road. It goes better than my parents 92 dodge spirit. All I did is put goodyear eagle gps on the rear 2 bags of sand from lowes and I was all set. Car has yet to end up stuck other than being plowed in while parked infront of my house. I live in Pennsylvania and get killed by the lake effect snow. My 240 is my car of choice over the jeep for snowy days anytime any place.

It not like I am driving 50+mph and yanking on the thing to do a drift. I am going nice and slow and just give a little tug on it and only if I can't make the turn. If you practice in a parking lot you will find the 240 is quite nimble and easy to drive on ice once you get use to the way it moves. It is all in fethering the gas. If I had a good camera I would shoot a video to show what I am talking about you will see I am not a jerk on the road and will notice what it is like. Alas I don't have a camera to do it with.
