I have been running my CA18det for about almost 3 months now in my S13 i think.

But my question was Im really not sure how many miles to the gallon a CA18det can get with out a heavy foot. Im getting around like maybe around 200 miles a tank and thats off the top of my head, thats driveing around town with an ocasional highway driveing now and then.

Does anyone know the factory listing from Nisan of Japan of how many MPG the CA will get stock.

or just off the top of your head how much do you know they get

my setup is:SR T25 turbo at 7psi of boost3 inch exhuast turbo backsidemount intercooledThe big mines K&N air filter 93 octane pump gas S13 silvia stock SR20det fuel pump from Japan!

stock injectors i think the circuit on one is messed up a litle but i dont really know much about the CA.

Thanks for the help and info Guys I appreciate it.

When my speedo/odo was working, I would get around 230 - 280 miles on a 52 litre tank.

about 50% of my driving is on the highway.

Mods were FMIC and 3" turbo back

I think that sounds about right

becuase i remember getting alittle over 230 maybe about a month ago and it still had a little more to go

I feel like i think im running really rich cuase i ts been back fireing a bunch latly

and sometimes when the motor is warmed up and then i come to a stop it drops to 2-300rpm up 500rpms and stays their for a few seconds then bounce back up to 800rpm at idle.

Thanks

bout the only way to tell if you are running rich is wideband.....specially with a modded car cuz the more performance you add into the equation the motor fuel you are going to require........ that is unless you want to starve your engine and nuke it I suppose.

20-27.......idk what Im netting as I dont ever let it drop below the 1/4 tank marker.

I used to get between 35 and 40mpg on the highway with my ca18. This was with a fmic, gt28r, 510cc/min injectors, intake, exhaust, etc. Stock fuel management with a tuned ecu and a safcII. Crazy I know, but I was seeing around 500mi on a tank of highway driving. I think thats about right considering its a tiny engine in a light car with a very low drag coefficient.

Now that I am running MegaSquirt, I see between 20 and 25. Once it is tuned properly, I hope to see over 30 again.

My daily mixed (mostly highway, but often 70+) driving is getting me about 20-24mpg

Long road trips, I have gotten as high as 29mpg.

I've gotten 35mpg on the highway with mine. In town it goes to crap cuz I can't stay out of it. Heavy foot yielded me a low 20's.

I have to think that Ryan and Tim's results are closer to what it should get. I get an average of 24mpg with mostly city driving with my moderately modded rb25 car. The CA should do far better driven properly...

I see 28ish with spirited highway driving* 90% of my miles. Best way to calculate is fill your tank and reset your trip meter.

Next time you fill, record how many gallons you put in. Divide the number of miles on your trip meter by this and that should give you a rough mpg estimate. There are some error factors of course but I would say it's pretty good for a 15 second cell phone calculator estimate.

*spirited highway driving: average of 80mph (~3200 rpm in 5th, maybe a little more) with semi-often occurrences of acceleration between 65-90 mph. Have to keep her on her toes

I definately think I've gotten better mileage in the powerband than under it.

I need to get my HLSD w/ CA18DET final drive (shorter than KA) installed, then see what happens. Should keep me in the powerband at lower speeds, and really who needs to gear out at 160?

Kool well guys i just put my KAAZ 2 way and my DSS 15lbs one peice drive shaft on my hatch with the CA those parts was intended to be used on my sr but its not road capable yet so yeah and i wanted to start drifting again.

but i can feel a huge difference in response and acceleration and at WOT sut i think i calculated like 14mpg once with boosting alot and around mid 20s mpg with just city driveing i think im not sure id have to getmore gas and test it again with the tripometer.

after i tested my kaaz 2 way drifting just now it was running really rich idk why but it backfired 2 times really loud and its been throwing fireballs like lue kang out the tailpipe and IIRC my fuel system is all stock but a Z32 fuel filter. idk wht do you guys think.

^ Sorry man, I couldn't understand that last part. I tried, but my brain is too tired to understand anything less than perfect grammar.

I usually sit at 3800 in 5th, cruising at about 65mi/hr.

Also, I believe the hatchback gas a lower drag coefficient than the coupe, especially if you have a silvia front. My mileage drops by about 5mpg when my headlights are popped up.

ok i tested it again and for 2 gallons of gas i got 49.5 miles before i stopped and filled up again, and thats like 1/4 was city driveing and the rest was highway.

With my silvia ca18det jdm.

With 91octane and everything stock my best mpg last year was 550km/53LIt's near 9L/100km.

Don't know what it is in mpg exactly but pretty close ton 28/30 mpg.

Btw all this have been done with a little exhaust leak and the suspension/direction needed to be tuned/ajusted .

my ca18de ECU with DET injectors was giving me 18-24mpg depending on the week. I USUALLY saw around 22mpg. sometimes upwards of 26-28 on the highway.

Look at it this way, my mom's 2007 Miata gets about 33-35mpg on the highway. The CA18 is smaller, and should therefore get better mileage when off boost. If it isn't getting that good a gas mileage, get it tuned.

comparing 2007 cars to 1988 cars isnt fair. My pulsar when it was bone stock still never saw over 30mpg... on the highway even! thats a ca18de with all the emissions crud working and put there by nissan. I think my car was rated 24city 28hwy anyway.

Its totally fair. Why is it not fair? My stand alone should let me run my car as fuel efficiently as any chump over at Mazda can.

I should also mention that I ran a couple tanks of regular unleaded as opposed to premium and saw a drop of almost 4 mpg.

Ive seen better mileage out of my 80s low compression turbo Nissan than out of that high compression '07 Mazda. You guys are just doing something wrong. I saw 500mi on my 13gal tank regularly. My friends were always skeptical, until they went on a trip with me. You hear that? I HAVE WITNESSES!!

EDIT: I feel I should mention I have never once put any lower than 93 octane in the beast. If I can fill it up with 100, it gets 100. One time I filled it up with leaded 114. That was AWESOME!

well i've driven my car for about a week or so after my g/f filled up the tank for me and heres the verdict..

stock CA T25 11-12psiequal length Manifold3" turbo back exhaustFMICrunning a little rich(this is all done with going to school (~8mi. away) monday - wednesday 4 times each week and some spirited driving here and there)

350 miles on 3/4 of a tank, around 28 to 30mpg, basically no highway miles.

The engine does effect the fuel economy but I thing the weight and aerodynamics of the car play a much bigger role that the displacement of the engine but I could be wrong.

I was getting about 15-20 MGP with my ca but it was running poorly and very rich.
