Listen to this man! It's the only way to know your ACTUAL fuel mileage. I do this all the time; I see it as a way to know if my engine is running as it should. I can't speak for the CA, but I was recently getting 19mpg from my truck; it ran just fine, I wouldn't have known there was a problem if I hadn't checked my mileage. I finally tracked it down to a clogged up EGR valve. I'm up to 24mpg now! Pretty damn good for a 4x4.jt15833 wrote:I see 28ish with spirited highway driving* 90% of my miles. Best way to calculate is fill your tank and reset your trip meter.
Next time you fill, record how many gallons you put in. Divide the number of miles on your trip meter by this and that should give you a rough mpg estimate. There are some error factors of course but I would say it's pretty good for a 15 second cell phone calculator estimate.
*spirited highway driving: average of 80mph (~3200 rpm in 5th, maybe a little more) with semi-often occurrences of acceleration between 65-90 mph. Have to keep her on her toes
