Umm... a KA and CA radiator are about the same. PLENTY of people use a stock KA radiator. If your engine blew up, its for different reasons. What is the exact reason why your car isn't repairable?

The problem is that the shop she took it to to have it done did a bad job and it hasn't run right from day one, and they keep feeding her bull**** about why it's not their fault etc.

I'm mad that she's ditching the project because she got screwed over by some shop.

Is there anyone that can help her out nearby? I mean, letting the project go is kinda "not cool". How about getting the shop to make it work right?

yeah ok i can see that... I dont like being treated like a girl, i would rather be thought of as one of the guys... Yeah i know that sounds odd, but whatever. All the guys in my car clubs treat me like a guy so i am use to it.. I dont know why? Maybe it is because i can sit there and be a part of the conersation and not just sit there twirling my hair....

Never takes long for a thread to turn into a leg humping craze on does it?

Anyway. You should definitely confront that shop that installed your motor. It's either their fault, or it's a unforeseen problem with the engine. OR you just blew your head gasket from detonation or something. The KA rad definitely isn't at fault what ever it is.

To the OP: Maybe it's time to have a different shop or someone really knowledgeable have a look under the hood?

Im interested! What else do you have? Can you make a parts list with prices shipped? Maybe some pics?

Well my email is right there so if you update this, i want know. Ive noticed that its not that hard to get parts on here or online for the CA. Not as much as its "made out to be."

I DONT KNOW! thats what speedzone told me and thats how im going about it- they did a compression test and all the cylinders were pretty much F*cked except cylinder 4- ok here's how that morning went- i stopped at the gas station and put 93 in it/ filled it up. Then I got onto 417 which is less than 6 miles away and about 10 minutes down the road i started smelling something burning and felt the power of the car decreasing heavily- i pulled over popped the hood and a hole sh*tload of smoke came out i seen the radiator had a big *** open crack on the left side on top- I prety much knew i was f*cked then. the engine overheated and i dont see why either, the temp gauge never went up i figure it overheated and the bore is off now so whatever- i poured over $6500 in that f*ckin engine and i teared heavily when they told me that its done i dont know what else to do Im out of money to keep fixing it and the rest is history- Im just guna part the engine out and put a RB25 in it-

and for those of you who are interested in parts- WHAT DOES CA18DET usually carry?anywhere from the turbo itself to valve cover, coil packs, i have aftermarket gauges not installed yet- i have megan racing turbo manifold (never installed brand new). manual boost controller, ignitor chip, TUNED ECU (boost cut, remap air/fuel ect) Just ask or call 4077092774or ill sell the whole engine and transmission (BRAND NEW CLUTCH BY THE WAY!! STAGE 3 EXEDY) for $500.00 and whatever shipping is

and the engine needs to be pulled out so what do i need to take out to pull the complete motor?

i suggest making friends with someone local who knows cars.

it sounds like you are getting the runaround.

the chances of your engine being blown from running it that short amount of time are slim and none.

what are the numbers of the compression test? did they even tell you?

a few years back i had my lower radiator hose pulled off when i drove over a tree branch in the road. i then proceeded to drive a friend's mom 20 miles to the volkswagen dealership to pick her car up. about 3/4 the way there it kept stalling out, and since there was no coolant the gauge read normal, so i didnt know anything was wrong. i kept restarting it, revving the crap out of it so it wouldnt die on me, and heading out to this dealership. when i got there it just quit and wouldnt restart. i popped the hood and the block was literally smoking. i thought it was done for, and i left it at the dealership (the people there were very nice and understanding, and helped me move it out of the way). my dad went over the next day to try and tow it back home, and decided to put some coolant in it and give her a try. ran perfectly, no problems at all. not even low compression! if my engine can live through that i have a hard time believing yours died from 1/3 the "no coolant" abuse.

a few years ago, my girlfriend at the time was helping me out with some things.

end of the day, rad is empty, hoses reconnected, tell her to fill it with coolant/water.

about 4 miles away, i notice the temp gauge soaring WTF

turns out she just filled the resovior, not the radiator

it overheated like a motherbitch

it ran fine as soon as it got a little liquid

unless your engine got so hot that it warped the head, heat damage to teh block is unlikely

your shop ****ed up, hold them responsible (i would have said originally you should be doing all the work yourself anyway - its a learning experience, then you KNOW its done right, or youll know where it might be messed up, and know how to fix it instead of blowing more money

dontpay anyone to do labor on something you can do yourself - use the money you saved on tools to do the job

EDIT> a KA24E 240sx radiator is 5mm thicker than a CA18DET silvia (25mm vs 20)
