ok, before I decided to post about this, I tried my damnest to find out what the noise was short of fully removing the interior panel cover right behind the rear seat that covers the rear shock area in the HB.
symptom: if your sitting in the car and it is windy outside you can hear a flapper like sound coming from the left hand quarter of the HB. Sounds just like a 2 way door or ventilation exhaust in my exhaust for the house water heater... weird!!!

when you shut the door you can make it sound, open the door, close it again and you`ll hear the noise again, over and over...
you can also tap on the rear quarter panel and create this noise... I had a second person witness this noise and also create the noise with tapping and or closing/opening the doors.
I have pulled the interior panel away just enough and removed the little cover thats over the wiring harness plug on the LH side to put a inspection mirror with an LED light and I can not see anything out of place, or laying loose under the panel. I did not fully remove the interior panel bc I did not have any push clips to replace any that might break... when removing the interior cover that goes over the trunk latch, one clip broke and one came out intact...

Does anyone have any idea what this rattle, or swinging trap door sound really is? I thought it might have something to do with a fresh air vent or something built into the body, just can`t really see anything...

HELP!!1...lol... b4 I tear the rear of the car apart!, thanks...BlackMetal...

I did notice an odd ticking almost like a groaning sound which sounded like it was coming from the rear of my hatchback. After checking and checking I couldn't find it. Long story short.. For what ever reason when I have the passenger seat all the way back I get that sound, pushing it forward just by one notch makes it go away? I've no idea what it was/is but I plan to ask the dealer if they can have a look. I've had it for a while and just by chance noticed it vanished when I moved the seat.. Put the seat all the way back again and it returns?

I don't know my issue and yours are the same but all the same just in case thought I'd post. Good luck!

Thank you for your post.
I`ve tried every seat position and no different. I`ve opened and closed all the doors with the same noise occurring. It def sounds like a trap door of some kind opening and shutting. I can not see any loose metal or object anywhere under the body, behind the rear fascia, or under the car in that area... it`s not a heat shield, I just don`t know what it could be... Today was windy, and as I sat in the car in front of the store waiting for the misses I could hear the noise being triggered by the wind, inside the quarter panel... def freaking me out...
I can make it happen by simply opening and shutting any door or rocking the body/car. There is something def in there...

I have to get some of those panel clips b4 I can remove the panel entirely so I`m prepared when some of them snap off...

thank you kc5f. I wouldn`t have even know on how to search that topic specifically...

The trap door noise is def on the left rear quarter, maybe there is more than one? for the last 2 years this car for the most part has been very quiet, minor dash rattles etc (compared to what I have read here). this started right after our big snow storm... and have no clue as to why all of a sudden this noise is present... Thanks for the link! my curiosity will eventually get the best of me, and I`ll have a look someday... :)

I wasn't suggesting a search would have found that. I just happened to remember it since it was fairly recent and hoped it could help. FWIW, I've never noticed the noise on any of our Versas...

it`s cool, thanks... yeah, surprised the hell out of me to hear this after 2 years., outside of the normal noises associated with this model.
whats weird is even with the hatch open and no cabin pressure can build up from a closing door, you can make the noise happen...
hahaha my friend says its a japanese beer can rolling around in there!, hahahahah

is this mystery vent/flapper proven to exist?

I couldn't find a reference in the service manual, although it's not a parts list. I did find a place in the body repair section where they listed plastics used in the body, and it referenced the "closing panel for rear mud guard" in the wheel wells. Just a thought...

I just looked in the Service manual and there wasn`t any view of the vehicle structure per say...

Is this for real???
I went to the local dealer this afternoon to get a few replacement plastic push-in clips that hold the interior plastic that surround the trunk space in the hatch back... The DEALER told me I have to buy the whole panel(s) to get the grey colored plastic push-in clips that hold them to the body!!! :wtf2: are they freakin kidding me??? I told the parts dood that was totally retarded, to get a clip that is worth a dollar to make you have to buy the entire panel...
This is the stupid sh-t that pisses me off about nissan, it`s the little things...

well it was confirmed by another dealer that the plastic Charcoal colored Christmas tree type clips come with the panel and not separately! looks like `ll have to match something up... good grief ... :(

AH HAH!!! I knew I wasn`t crazy! , I found the damn noise!!!
It was exactly what I thought it was. In the left side rear inner quarter, behind the plastic fascia panel is the approx 4 X 6 louvered vent. I could only see this from the inside so I don`t know why it broke loose. There is some kind of flaps inside this plastic vent assy, when you open the door these vents open to atmosphere so there is no suction or vacuum holding against the door. and when it was windy , the wind under the car made this assy move in and out of place. That`s why I could hear it when shaking/rolling the body.
sooo when I closed the door I saw the whole assy moving in and out of the body cut out, looks like some clips fell off or some tabs are broken, again I don`t know what caused this... well I fixed it and now it is quiet again...it won`t be coming loose anytime soon... thank sweet Jesus! :dblthumb:
