I used to always spray off the Maxima underhood when at the car wash. Interestingly, some of the car washes around here have started posting notices saying things to the effect of "Do NOT wash your engine here, it is illegal to dispose of chemicals in the sewer system". Huh. So I guess the automatic washes that spray up from the bottom are going to be banned now? It's sort of unavoidable, even without lifting the hood. I mean, they can't seriously think that the only place with nasty chemicals on a car is the top of the engine, can they?

I haven't washed under the hood of the Q yet because I wasn't sure if it was safe (Maxima's VG was a much older design with fewer sensitive electronics--still had a distributor, etc.). You guys do use water and are okay, then...? My biggest concern is whether the ornament covers seal well enough to keep water away from the coil packs.
