im trying to find a place inside my '95 j30 to mount my sub at. i really dont wanna put it in the trunk cuz i dont think i would feel it as much that way. now.... heres my thoughts on what could possiably be done, i just want some feedback about the idea.

i took apart the door panel in the back doors, i then realized theres no speaker there, its behind the seats. so i was thinkin about just running a wire from the back of the car where the amp is, into the cabin , along the floor, under the carpet, then up the beam thingie and directly into the door. then put a speaker in the door like that. anyone know if theres any way to easily do that, due to clearence issues and stuff. and what size speakers i would need, probably 4" instead of the 6x9's that are in the back. then mount sub's where the old 6x9's were at..... thoughts??

I am wrestling with the same issue as well. I am going down a much tougher road but in your case, I would think there is room to mount a pair of 8" subs and cabinets below the old 6x9 holes. The center location, where my sub will end up being, is very difficult because of the gas tank and lines. Do some measuring and see if you have room for the pair of 8's plan.

I am confused on what you want to put in the door. Rear speakers? You could mount them there. But, unless you are looking for more sound for rear passengers, you don't need them. I have them but keep them turned down all the way unless there are passengers in the rear. Otherwise, mount another set of speakers next to the pair of subs.

Just throw it in the trunk like the rest of us.

I have no problem feeling my single 12 with 2000 watts. Its pretty mean.

He had mentioned some very serious health problems. And the other day I was looking for his posts but they are all gone.

I hope he is still with us.

would the amount of bass from a 600 watt sub be felt from the trunk. one plan is to build a wedge box into the right side of the trunk. and hide the amp inside there, the amp i bought was ugly. lol

Oh you will feel it! Trunk is fine. Just be sure there is a way for the sound to get into the cabin. Sure, if you leave everything sealed up you will still feel it but the SQ will be down. Leave the 6x9 holes open and it is fine. Of course you increase your cabin noise level as well. The trunk is not that well sound insulated. If you must have rear speakers and a trunk mounted sub, try putting the rear speakers in the stock location and open up the middle of the rear deck. Of course you could build a band pass box and vent it into the cabin as well. This would directly couple the sub to the cabin, reduce cabin noise over opening up the trunk to the cabin but it would also place more burden on front mid-bass due to the limited frequency range a bandpass box has to offer. I know there are some infinite baffle sub that could just mount to the rear deck with no box but I have no experience with them.

it all depends on how much you want to feel 600 is plenty and will surely be felt by you and others around i have 800 and im sure there are others with more. i have only a 10 inch running 800 RMS at 2 Ohms in the trunk and you can hear it with no problem my dad still says that he hears me from down the road lol love it just for thought while on the subject on design i wanted to do but didnt really get into cause i found this one at a great deal was use the kicker 8 in SQUARE sub and actually mounting it in between the 6x9's the the cab there's some work involved and blah blah but an idea no less

here look if you would like it dosent even take up much room http://i78.photobucket.com/alb...b.jpg

If you are more into SQ than SPL you could use a Aperiodic enclosure and get a good size sub in the rear deck. Do a google search... there is lots of info on them

do u have that mounted onto the side wall or anything?? or is it just sitting there?? i make sharp turns, and i dont wanna damage my equipment, is there any really great ways of securing it to the side?? maybe giant zipties through the back of the box and the side panel??

my box design is actually two pieces first i made just a standard box to the Specs given by Alpine and i mounted that to the floor of the trunk with some multi hole L brackets. then the black you see is actually just cosmetic cover shaped to the contour of the trunk if you would like i am going to my car this weekend and would be glad to take more pics of what i am saying

And im with you i take sharp hard turns (love the HICAS) and it will not move an inch

Here's a pic of my subwoofer and amp setup. Pioneer makes a 4" deep subwoofer in a custom enclosure that fits perfectly in the J's trunk. My custom shop sat in on some plywood and covered the whole job with matching carpet. It almost looks factory installed. And combined with my Boston Acoustic Z6 front and rears, it sounds great!

would a 15 foot rca cable be good enough for the j30?? to go from the stereo to the trunk along the driver side, then back over to the passenger side in the trunk??

or should i have the sub on the driver side to make it easier.

Well, its doesnt matter much, Since the RCAs go into the amp and then you get speaker wires from there.

15 ft will be enough.

after a few month hiatus to my internet and moving from place to place after the dealing with the ex-fiancee...I'm back...

Just like everyone has said you'd be surprised at how much you'll actually feel with it being int he trunk. I've got a single 12 running only about 200 watts (just to give a bit of extra low end til I can get the setup I want) and I can feel a difference with it on most music

and that about Diamond isnt something I wanted to come back to the forum to see. Hopefully everything's ok

I gave up looking and drilled on myself.

Just make sure to rustproof the area and use a correct size grommet.

i dont think i wanna go that far.... how much is too much to take out from under the dash?? or would it be easier to totally take off the dashboard and search that way?? the audio cable i believe will be a lot easier to run.

In the front passenger side wheel well you will see a plastic cover. Remove the cover and there should be a hole that is not being used. I put a grommet in that hole and ran the power wire through there, down along the frame rail and over the rear suspension and into the trunk. Cover the power wire with some split loom protector, or better yet some conduit, and fasten it often to the car. In my case, zip ties to the plastic protector that runs the length of the car back to the trunk. Don't forget to fuse as close to the battery as possible in case of a short!

Capacitors are a waste of time, either get a better or more batteries or get a high output alternator.

I seriously dont get why people spend $100+ for a cap when they can get a new optima for almost that much.

I always prefer to run the wire inside the car just in case.

And ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS use a fuse, unless you are a pro and know what you are doing. It saves your *** most of the time

Here is a good read guys, great site about car audio. Talks all about fusing amperege neeeds, capaciots and batteries, and alot of other interesting stuff.

i got the wires all run... OMG, it was a pain in the *** to run it. i ended up finding a hole to feed my wire through the engine bay into the car, under the carpet, along the side, and through the back seat. :D took me a whole 7 hours to take the car apart and put it back together. the hole i used is also used for something for the air conditioner. only thing left now is to buy the parts to build a box, and build it. i decided to test out the sub w/out a box, it was pretty cool, then i put it back in the display box and had it running, WOW!!! lol. that box was jumpin like crazy.
