If you haven't read this in the news, some lady in Florida was knocked unconscious during a shopping frenzy at a Walmart. Here are some excerpts from the news article:

"A mob of shoppers rushing for a sale on DVD players [at $29] trampled the first woman in line and knocked her unconscious as they scrambled for the shelves at a Wal-Mart Supercenter.

Paramedics called to the store found VanLester unconscious on top of a DVD player, surrounded by shoppers seemingly oblivious to her, said Mark O'Keefe, a spokesman for EVAC Ambulance.

Ellzey [victim's sister] said Wal-Mart officials called later Friday to ask about her sister, and the store apologized and offered to put a DVD player on hold for her."

LOL Some lady gets pummeled in their store, and they offer to put a *****ing $29 DVD player "on hold" for her? Here's a slogan: "Walmart. Always low settlements. Always."

pretty crappy to hear that, but we must remember it's Wal-Mart and it's in Florida, no offense Florida folks, but you probably know what I mean anyway.

Hmm. It was the shoppers fault that the lady was hurt, not walmart's. They just didn't want a lawsuit.

That's what you get when you cram 60 trailer-park residents in a confined space.

Geez-o-pete, people - Drop the extra $20 and get a nice DVD player at Best Buy or Circuit City. :rolleyes

I'm with Greg on this one.

DVD players are very low in price everywhere right now... just spend a little bit more and get a nice one!

I can hear the Red-neck jokes already..."If you trampled a lady during a sale at Walmart; you just might be a red-neck"

I can relate to that. When I was a 3rd shift stocker, I worked Thanksgiving night once. There were people outside the store as early as 4:00 a.m. THAT I KNOW OF. Probably people there even earlier. When I finally got to leave, they were just opening the doors. I had to duck between displays in an aisle to keep from getting trampled.

Un-freaking-believable.

Good thing there wasn't a "buy one get one free" offer on the extra-large bags of pork rinds - Might have had a few fatalities.

Easier, yes. Cheaper, no.

I think Day After Thanksgiving sales are some of the cheapest prices on anything that I've ever seen. I think it was Best Buy that had a brand new 52X CD burner for $4.99 after rebates.

Generally, though, the cheaper the item, the crappier brand it is.

I am at a loss as to why people would wake up freaking early (earlier than when they go to work) on their day off to stand in line and freeze their *** off just for a sale. What could possibly be on sale that is worth that? There was a line at 4am on Friday outside the best buy. Then people waited an extra hour after the store opened for the computer section to open up. I stay away from Castleton (the mall on the northside) after Thanksgiving. I may pop in on a Tuesday night when no one is around, but the traffic is typically emense. Definatly not worth the headache.

Yeah..... Thats true, mind boggling.... Last year, we went to castleton, and we waited **15 mins** to make a right turn out of the mall parking lot!!!!

Was traffic very bad today??

Traffic has picked up, but it wasnt bad at 6:00 when I rolled into Castleton. Problem with Castleton is the fact that they need to improve and widen most of the roads.

I think walmart's where Apex, which isn't a bad brand even though I burned mine out, I think that was because it was on 24/7 most of the time for like a year and a half....(I'd start watching a movie then fall asleep, seems to work better than a warm glass of milk and a lullaby for me:))

Yea, my roomates DVD player is an Apex from Wallyworld that he got for a graduation present. I think it was like a $40 DVD player new a year ago. Kinda cheap looking, but it works and since I don't have one, it's much better than mine!

nope, it was the $19.99 DVD players that got most of them hooked to best buy... i went over there around 9am, but was too late to nab 1....

Black Fridays r crazy... only got free paper shredder, $40 80 GB hard drive, free (after rebates) 200 CDRs, & some other nick-nacks...that was all thru online shoppin' on that day.

I must say that I was one of those people who was in line at Best Buy at 4:00 AM. Reason is, is they were selling SD 256 mb memory cards for like 49.99 instant rebate. Which they normally go for about 105. Also MP3 players for $40, which my bros friend picked up. Emachines computers for like 150 and up, T.V.s for 100, 27 inch, but very cheap quality, and to keep from other buyers getting the thing you wanted, early in the morning, they gave out tickets, so that you could shop around and do w/e and not worry about someone getting the item you wanted. Actually though, since my bors friend had a ticket for the tv, they actually ran out of the one on sale and he ended up getting a 150 tv for 100. SO that was a good deal. Lines were crazy, the line for the digital cameras was crazy, because of the slow arse lady who took 15-30 mins on each person. Overall, we were at best buy for about 5 1/2 hours that day. Until about 10 am, and me and my bro were tired since we pulled an all nighter anyways. Some people, or the very first ones were waiting there since 8 30 pm thanksgiving day. Overall, we got some good deals on sruff we wanted to get.

i push the buggies at a wal-mart in mississippi, people here are morons they have no respect for anyone i got hit twice in five min. because people dont know how to drive. people throw their buggies at you like were their personal slaves. i just stopped caring and went home early. i was the only person there thanksgiving night and it was raining and cold and lots of people. my boss had me doing more things in the store than out so when it came time for me to go home i couldnt till the lot was clear. we get some pretty nice cars there though, we have a family here that has 4 vipers 3 old 1 new. i'm the only one at work with a nice nissan everyone else has camaros or mustangs and diss on me all the time. i finally raced one of the z28 camaros and beat him by half a car lenth.

although ultimately, it's the fault of rabid shoppers.

Walmart could've stepped in to organize it, or to keep things civilized to a small degree.

aw, hell, what am i saying? people are animals...especially mad shoppers.. they're a whole 'nother species.

My girlfriend got up at 430am to go shopping...unfrieking believeable. When I woke up at 11am and called her she was allready done! What did she get for her time? a cheap manicure set yet she claims to have had fun. Those shoppers are absolutely insane, at least that lady stayed on top of the DVD player ;)
