Quote »Yea, my roomates DVD player is an Apex from Wallyworld that he got for a graduation present. I think it was like a $40 DVD player new a year ago. Kinda cheap looking, but it works and since I don't have one, it's much better than mine![/quote]

Yah I got an Apex DVD player for Christmas last year and it's been pretty good, it has no trouble with SVCD, and it even plays straight MPEG's (I think that requires progressive scan, though the player doesn't say that). I've got several movies I downloaded as AVI's, converted to MPG and split onto two CD's, and that Apex plays them like a champ.

Apex is pretty low on the quality control scale, but they're format-friendly and a lot of their models are, um, "upgradeable". When they quit making the AD-1500 I went down to Circuit City for the closeout sale and bought every one they had.
