I think itd be a close race... VR6 has more power with those mods than a stock SR20 but it does weigh more than a S13 soo...

I think it might come down to drivers... Im assuming he drives a stick

Curb weight for a 98 GTi Vr6 is 2800.. and S13 is about 2700 so sorry I guess there isnt a big difference...

Sorry to say but Im leaning towards the VR6

you dont got a boost controller do you? if you up the boost 2-3psi you might be able to get him. 10-11psi should do it

my friend literaly just got a vr6 tonight, ironic thread!! its quick, but even with my ka i feel like i have enough balls to be close. we took a kids maxima with i/h/e on it and raced, pretty close, the vr6 stock isnt that fast off the line as expected. idk about it chipped tho, and i personaly havent experienced a sr20. try it.

I think 14 psi might be a bit high w/o a FMIC tho... but even around 11 or 12.. you should take him. Because if im not mistaken.. at 13 you should get around 230 at the wheels

dont puzsh to 14 unless you get a FMIC

11-12 will get you around 225-235 at the wheels. thats plenty

my buddy has a 96 VR6 Jetta. All it has is an upgraded clutch and a filter. Let me tell ya,that thing is quick! No lie here, but he beat a new RX-8 and pulled from 2nd till 5th on an 03 Vette.

So,my money is on the VR6.sorry

You will win, my friends in his 92 hicas with intake, an exhaust ran a 96 jetta glx vr6. An the 240 beat him off the line up an they went to about 3rd gear an the 240 had him by about half a car length so yeah you will win. Vr6 has great top end thats the only reason the hicas won because it was a short distance race an rwd helps alot off the line. If they would of went pass about 65-70 mph the ka would of been done for. But you have sr20 so you dont have to worry about that. I was short runs but the vr6 lost too an the vr6 had neuspeed filter, neuspeed exhaust,an chip. So yeah you will win anyway possible.

Oh yeah just wanted to say good luck with the race,an dont sleep on that vr6 because i forgot ur racing a gti not a jetta so thats a whole nother ball game. An my bad it was a 91 hicas not a 92 hicas. Oh yeah watch out form 3rd gear too those cars pull like a ***** trust me i know.

You'll beat him, it's just a VW. I know a guy with a GLI turbo, he has a ton of mods, exhaust, boost controller, FMIC, turbo upgrade, it's still not impressive. I'm sure my S14, which only has a few bolt ons, can beat it. Hell, I beat a new Audi A4 turbo on the highway the other day. Go kick his ***

vr6 will take longer to rev up then the sport engine SR, but with 14psi, u'll have enough power to keep him off ur tail on a quarter mile or light to light, but u wont be beating him by much (a car length at most) so it all comes down to which one of u handle their car better....good luck

IMHO: its the launch

from what it seems, both cars are pretty well in competition, although this is a 240sx forum so I'm not sure how many people want to say OMG DOOD THT VR6 IS GUNNA PWNZ0R UR CAR!!1LOLLER!

If you're racing a quarter mile, and you know where, just practice the launch a couple times. Seriously, the launch makes the biggest difference in close races IMO.

I own a 98 jetta vr6 glx with techtonics chip and ck performance parts. I also own a 90 240sx sr20 .. In my opinion stock sr vs. Stock vr6 .. I'd give it to the sr .. However a few light mods on the vr6 like I have done can hone some incredible results..I can stretch second to like 65 .. All in all this is definitely a top end vehicle (vr6).. I know how the sr20 @ 7psi runs as well as the vr6 chipped runs.. It is very close.. I think the only way you could beat him is raise your boost to 12psi and even then, you'd have to hope this guy isn't a superb runner..

I definitely , definitely wouldn't say you are gonna rip him or you'll "DEFINITELY" win .. If anything it'l be very, very close if both drivers can drive because at your boost rate and his mods, the teo of you will be pushing about 225-230
