VQ35 Powered Pontiac Fiero.

V8 240sx? Sure! If either the chassis OR the engine is non-Nissan (i.e. SR20 in an RX-7 or LS1 in a 240sx), we've done it.

Just thought I'd add my little project to the list of Hybrids. It's a work in progress and a long time coming but when its done it will be well worth it! I'm using a max. Vq35 w/6speed. Vq is fully built with Eagle rods and JE pistons(8.5-1) to take boost(15#). Of course it has custom exhaust and manifold and going with a stand alone ECU. I know a lot of people don't like the Fiero but I do and I think the VQ it the power plant it needs. Thanks for reading.

TRH - I <3 you.

Welcome aboard, I can't WAIT to hear more about this project!!!!!

I rolled around in a Fiero GT when they were new... Too bad GM couldn't get the QC right, it would have been a world-beater.

Cool swap! Thats just what a Fiero needs. Its a good looking car. I really like that rear sot you posted. Its just needs a better motor...

Thinks for the re-size.

That's what I thought. I've been threw a swap in this car before(3.4 DOHC GTP or Z34 motor). It's just not the power I want. And the trans is only good for 300hp. Were Nissan builds much stronger parts in there FWD apps. then GM.

There's a guy here in town with a FWD Toronado (455c.i.?) in his Fiero.

It's ungodly.

Do you even know what a Fiero Is??? Its a Mid engine Rwd car......... there's very little weight in the front and 0 torque steer! Its rwd..... Let Me say this.. If you have EVER experienced torque steer in a rwd, There's somthing very wrong with that car!! The Fiero dues have some bump-steer if that's what you mean.

Not bitchin you out. Its just funny what people say sometimes about a Fiero.

My guess is the Fiero was built before our man Steve was born.

Steve, the Toronado was a FWD car with a MONSTER engine. This gentleman simply converted to use in a rear-engine, rear-drive car.

To put it VERY simply, he took what was under the hood and threw it in the trunk.

ah my bad, u said FWD which gave me the impression that the fierro was FWD as well, hence my torque steer comment, but in that case its even better being it RWD. ill be the first to admit i was very young durring their time but hey thats why i am here, to learn. thanks.

BTW Greg, we still on for that beer when I get back. I'm still young but not too young for a beer.

VQ30DE is the engine code. Good little engine to, responds very well to 8 psi of boost.

A friend of mine is trying to talk me in to doing a twin turbo setup rather then a single... what do you think?? I'll be doing road racing mostly so I wont need a monster amount of boost like a drag car. But I do want a low lag fast spool! I don't know..... tell me what you think. Thinks

Tony, I fixed your sig...

I'm confused - Are you doing a VQ35 swap, a VQ30 or a VG30? It's a Maxima FWD engine from 96-99?

If so, you may want me to edit your screen name too...

Either way, pop in on the Maxima forums here, and soak up some of their turbo knowledge for that engine... Single-snail should be fine, but I'll bet the plumbing will be simpler for duals.

Hmmmmm. Maybe someone should turn an S13 hatch into a mid engine rear wheel drive V6. that would be pretty cool, just for originalities sake. I am going to add that to my list of things to do when I get money, a house, and a garage to tinker in.

Cool project. I look forward to seeing the final result.

The VQ should be able to take good boost. One of our previous Maxima Mods had a VQ30DE and a single turbo with over 500hp using factory internals and injectors. The VQ35 is a great motor and if you want to twin turbo it, a kit similar to the 350Z/G35 boiz could possibly be modified for your mid-mount configuration.

Sorry for bouncing around on topic's here but what( If any) deference is there in the Maxima flywheel verses the 350z/G35 flywheel??

Just trying to get all my egg in one basket here!!

As for My earlier turbo question..... Think you all very mush for your response!! My original idea was to go with a single large turbo but a very good friend gave me two 14B DSM turbo's to do the twin turbo setup on my car!! So guess what im doing!! Man... It's good to have good friend's in great places!

Sorry about the lapse. I've been doing a lot of searching around for info and part's so I've lost track of this thread.

Im still looking for a good deal on a donor car or a motor and trans with harness and ECU. As you can see not mush progress to report. But like I said, "Thiswont be a fast swap"

however I do have the car all ready to Go. the cradle is out and cleaned up ready to start cutting it up to custom fab the mounts for motor and trans. Sense I'm using maxima hub and spindles I am making custom control arm's and strut tower's. But I cant do **** without the Motor/Trans!! sucks hu.

I will have some PIC's to post of the car shortly.
