VQ35 Powered Pontiac Fiero.

V8 240sx? Sure! If either the chassis OR the engine is non-Nissan (i.e. SR20 in an RX-7 or LS1 in a 240sx), we've done it.

Hi all. Just to let you know This is not a dead project! Im looking for a good 35 and not having much luck. So I'm using a Vq30 to get things started. I'm using the 3.0 harness and ECU anyway so why not use the 3.0 motor to start off with. then when I fined a good 3.5 swap it over.

One quick question. Will the Greddy VT controller control the cam timing without having the factory reference to base it off of? Can it be tuned without it?

I'm not up to speed on the VQ series...you'll have to hit the Max forum most likely.

I'd use the VG30 from an earlier Max myself. Much friendlier to tuning and will make GOBS of power on boost.

Don't get me wrong, I love the VG but Im looking for a light weight setup and the VG is a anchor. And the VG30de is SO wide I don't think it will fit.

I think I'm going to ask GReddy them salves.

I'd use the VG30E anyway..the DE is huge like you said. I also forget sometimes about the weight factor. Do you know what the difference is between them? I only say this because the difference between a LS1 and the iron block version, the LQ, is only 80lbs at most. Less IIRC, but I can't find where I found it...lol.

All VG's are pigs. You want the VQ. I would look into a VQ FWD trans and see if you can cram in a VH in there to go with it...

vq35fiero,

I know this is against the rules linking other sites but it has alot of valuable info that could be brought back to nico.

http://www.engineswaptech.com/

The founder of the site was one of the first to put the vq35 in a 240. Browse around there and it will help alot. Like the flywheel question you had. They do interchange between. Anyways sorry if this post pi$$e$ anyone off.

^^^You Must not know what a Fiero IS^^^ Of all of GM's flops, The Fiero was not one of them!! The Fiero was CANED du to rising sales of the Fiero's and declining sales of there flagship (Corvett) GM after spending over 1.000.000 on a suspension improvement for the 88 and up thay puled the plug! That's cause they were pist that the Fiero was stompin there Vetts asses on the race track's over and over again!

But yha, youve got your opp. on what you think you know and I got mine!(On what I DO know)

(240cp) Thinks for the site. Lots of info over there.

Hey good to here I'm not the only crazy one! Good luck with that. Do you have a add. plate for the 4t60e to bolt up to the Vq? And what engine management are you using?

Yha you make a good point there. Well the Vq35 is once again on the backberner. Ive been busy with this 3.1 turbo(TGP) swap. Manly cuz I have everything to do this swap and no $ to get the other project back rollen. Sucks but the 3.1t will be fun till I get the 3.5 finished! Keep an eye on this thread. I'll be back on track soon and the updates will start getin heavy!!

thats cool the 3.1 turbo sounds like a fun project. are you on "old europe" ? (fiero.nl) cause they have pretty much all the info you could ever need for the fiero.

What an awesome project. I simply love Fiero's. I live close to the Fiero Factory in Ardmore AL. They mostly place the Northstars in them there. Awesome place. I'm very interested in this and can't wait to hear more! With a VQ, it would run like hell and keep a good balance of weight.

how are you going to shift the 6spd? isn't the shifting mechanism in the rear of transmission? great swap idea, but curious as to how you are going to work this little dilema out. if you are looking for ideas to solve this problem, check out what the dune buggy guys do. i have seen some crazy *** shifting mechanisms that they have come up with.

it will not be a problem. The Fiero is just like any other car. The trans sits beside the motor and then puts the axles behind the motor. the shift cables are on top of the trans beside the motor, Just like the 6speed.

a little update, i got my adapter plate and a bunch of other parts. i have been working on the car a little. STILL waiting for the engine. i went through all of the megasquirt harness that i had and replaced all of the crip-connectors that the previous owner used with good old solder.(about 3-4 of the connectors had came apart).
