i had just bought a 95 240sx and i think all the vin number badges and plates have been swapped with different ones... now the title and all the vin badges all match up.... i also looked for the vin stamping on the firewall but it looks to be maybe taken off or painted or something... is there a way to find out if this happened? please help!!

Its hard to say since its hard to catch. If it looks tampered with, it may have just well been. The VIN is also stickers on alot of other places on the car for example on the front and rear bumpers. If you take it off you will see it plain as day right on top on the lip where the pushpins hold it up

You think i should just try to register it and hope for the best? Because i sont see why the dmv would really question it because the title matches everything on the car

My understanding is that there are hidden VIN#'s placed throughout the vehicle as well. CHP looks for these in CA when DMV inspects a salvaged or out-of-state vehicle for registration and something doesn't appear correct. Also, did you check the VIN through CARFAX or Autocheck prior to purchase?

What makes you think it has been tampered with?

If its an issue with the dash vin, maybe the dash was replaced due to cracking.

On the 95 240sx there isnt a dash vin? Im concerened with the covered up vin printed directly on the firewall and the messed up vin plate on the firewall and missing vin stickers on the door panels

If there is no VIN on the dash then someone removed it. I write down 10-15 VINs a day, and I have never seen a car without one on the dash. I also used to own an S14, it had a VIN on the dash.

Every car has one. I think you might have bought yourself a stolen car from the sound of it

NY huh? Wonder if you bought my old S14 that was stolen. Wasn't a green s14 that was painted black with a big puncture hole in the passenger rocker is it?

The VIN should be on a plate at the very front of the driver's side of the dashboard. Just underneath where our inspection stickers go. On the S14, it should have a scanable barcode.
