The block castings for motor mounts are different between the two, this makes building mounts even more difficult as you dont have matching mounts on each side of the block.
On FWD engines the distributer or CAS is mounted on the back of the head, hanging over the transmission, where as on RWD engines its on the side.
On FWD engines the intake manifolds point towards the transmission and the exhaust manifolds point down, while on a RWD engine the intake is towards the front of the engine, and the exhaust is towards the rear.
These are just some of the major differences, there are many more depending on the engine in question. A general rule of thumb, interchanging the two will be near impossible unless you own your own machine and fabrication shops.
