He makes a very good point. At this age you tend to make mistakes when driving. I fear for your first car, so choose wisely my son.

Get the s chassis when you're ready. Save up for it and when you're ready, the right one will be there .

It is hard to believe, but unless you stick to your required permit driving hours and not lying about them (my parents counted every minute and I counted every month!) you run a much greater risk of not knowing rules of the road that can help you keep your car from harm. That is, these only apply when you ARE trying to drive well, not drifting or completing shenanigans, from which we all know what can happen; EHEMMM!

PA DMV LAW: If you are under the age of 18, you must wait a mandatory 6 months from your permit issue date and have a signed Certificate of Completion for the 50 hours of skill-building before taking your road test.

Good luck man, but rust is a big pain in the a** for a first time car buyer to deal with, but maybe you're like me and enjoy a challenge!

If you have over 200hp in one of these cars they talk to you. Constantly teasing you: "Drive me!" "Faster!" "C'mon, you know I can handle that corner!" "PFFT you gonna let that 4g63 run up on you like that?"

It gets to you, definitely changed the type of driver I was, and brought out a more a$$ "I'm tyte" persona, which is good at the bar, but not when johnny law is out to get ya.Been there done that, I want back in "the game" real bad, but I really have to try hard, try not to look at the SR sitting in my garage and have patience. Until I finish school or save up 5g's I don't really have any justification to 'afford' one right now.

Sry about the length but yea s***s gone down, just letting you in the loop.

I waited 10 months to buy my first car since i got my license, stay away from rust though. I have not gotten into any accidents, and i am now 18, but we all make mistakes, lol. If you want to buy it then buy it.

Same exact thing happened to me. I was impatient and wanted my first car, but it was a pos and I sold it within months. Take your time to find the perfect car, it will come up sooner or later.

Yeah def man. But I have to wait a few because I want to prep the motor first a bit (apexi HG and rocker stoppers) I would NEED to buy a 3" downpipe, IC piping and IC. BOV That's pretty much it.I wouldn't have nonstock suspension, so I'd be inclined to go PBM asap lol.

I have been looking, but I also don't have a trailer and truck to haul home a shell or 'roller.' This would be the biggest problem, well no. Convincing my rents to allow yet another swapped 240 into my life would be the hardest part lol. I'd be better off building it off site like the way i obtained my 1st 240 originally.

Dun feel bad mang, it's all good I'm enjoying the simple 36mpg, but yeah my rwd genes fester from time to time.

Thanks for all the support guys. The seller called me and told me the car sold tonight. So i guess its not as big of a deal. I mean on the bright side I do want to do an sr swap myself just for learning purposes. I cant get my head out of cars right now. I just wanna know everything. Studying on here everyday should contribute to that goal. I shall keep my eyes peeled for good one to come up.

I was thinking about possibly flying to BC stutterr. There are quite a few cars there that look pretty decent. Only thing is I need to be sure of the car before i make that 200 dollar plane ticket... Plus the roads are pretty s*** right now to drive back...

Tercel drifter, good to see another edmontonian in here. my buddy drives a tercel actually, fun little cars. I will hit up n.e.c.c. as well.

Hey man, I've had to look for 4 years before I found my first 240sx. It sucks I know the feeling. I know how you feel about the having a license with no car, I sold my Jeep and had to go a week without a car, it was brutal having to rely on everyone else.

These guys are right dude, dont get me wrong its awesome you saved up your own money to buy a car, but unless you wanna go behind your parents back there isnt much you can do til your outta their house.

IMHO you should buy a stock 240 with a nice little KA for like $2k with little/no rust, fix it up and get used to the car a lil. Once youve done that and have some experience not only workin on cars but with RWD, THEN get your essar and have fun

don't get dissapointed man. It takes a long time to find a nice car. Trust your father; he has many many years of experience. It would be a pity to waste your money on a rust bucket that will require a lot of work afterwards...

It is a fantastic deal. could maybe go as far as a steal in my opinion. I live in canada and these cars are quite rare. So today we were about to make the trip down there (3 hour drive). everything checked out good they guy was very informative and honest. so we are about to leave the house and my dad decides to phone and ask if the car will pass an inspection at canadian tire (for those of you who dont know of this place, its s*** with a bunch of 16 year olds working on cars) And the seller sais that there is 2 things that would not pass1. No cat (turbo back 3")2. a fair amount of rust. "not visible but its there" quoted from the seller. so i was quite excited thinking that this car is gonna be my first. my dad hangs up the phone and he said quote " If it wont pass an inspection then th deals off" So i go "dad, this is a great deal, so what if it has rust? its a 19 year old car being put through years of snow and salt."" no. end of story."

Now ive been looking for a 240 for the past 3 months im REALLY getting impatient especially because i got my license a week ago and it is absolutely nerve racking when you dont have a car but you have a license.

Im sorry if this is a useless thread but i really needed to vent and maybe I wanted someone to comment saying that my dads an ***hole. (that would cheer me up)
Your dad is right. He is trying to protect you from yourself. Buy a car in texas or new mexico or arizona or some other place that will not result in a rusty piece of s***.

worst idea ever,..mexico..yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!

Hes right next to BC, the 240sx here are cheap and rust free. Also there is no need to get the car registered in Canada (bring it up to Canadian standards). Not to mention taxes, and bringing the car over here.

In BC we don't use salt on the roads, only sand.

To the original OP, go to BC to get a car, you will not be sorry.

240sx from Mexico..worst idea ever. Who would ever get a car from Mexico?

I live in calgary as well, you have to be rediculously patient when looking for a USDM 240 in Canada.

Check out Beyond.ca marketplace, there are a couple ones that are for sale for a decent price that will pass inspection.

take a look and best of luck

Mexico, Heh.I did also say "some other place" where the car is not rusty so if you can get a rust free car in flappy-head land, more power to you. Most 240s posted from north of the Mason-Dixon are rusty POS. Even if people have to ship a car across country, the freight is cheaper than having to fix a rusty POS.

Thanks again for all the support. I am going to start looking for 240sx in BC stutterr. And if I find one I will let you know. Does anyone happen to know how much an out of province inspection would cost?

Go give your Dad a hug , rust will break or make a car. The headaches and expenses involved in dealing with it are not worth it. Try to find the cleanest car as possible.
