so yesterday an ad came up. http://calgary.kijiji.ca/c-car...91991

It is a fantastic deal. could maybe go as far as a steal in my opinion. I live in canada and these cars are quite rare. So today we were about to make the trip down there (3 hour drive). everything checked out good they guy was very informative and honest. so we are about to leave the house and my dad decides to phone and ask if the car will pass an inspection at canadian tire (for those of you who dont know of this place, its s*** with a bunch of 16 year olds working on cars) And the seller sais that there is 2 things that would not pass1. No cat (turbo back 3")2. a fair amount of rust. "not visible but its there" quoted from the seller. so i was quite excited thinking that this car is gonna be my first. my dad hangs up the phone and he said quote " If it wont pass an inspection then th deals off" So i go "dad, this is a great deal, so what if it has rust? its a 19 year old car being put through years of snow and salt."" no. end of story."

Now ive been looking for a 240 for the past 3 months im REALLY getting impatient especially because i got my license a week ago and it is absolutely nerve racking when you dont have a car but you have a license.

Im sorry if this is a useless thread but i really needed to vent and maybe I wanted someone to comment saying that my dads an ***hole. (that would cheer me up)

true, but you could prob part the car out for more than 3500,

or get a new shell and have 4k in a sr20 s13, with coils and wheels. not a bad deal at all

Thats why i've always saved up my own money and got my cars registered and insured under my name, so no one can tell me what i can and cannot do. That is a good deal though, what you can do though is possibly propose an idea to your father:

1. Call up autobody shops and ask them quotes on welding specific areas, ask the kid what areas are rusted. I've also seen people on craigslist advertise cheap welding.2. Look in the classifieds and get a cat.

Shouldn't cost much at all, don't let this deal slip away, you couldn't even build this cheaper. If money is an issue, bring it up to the seller, say well these things need to be replaced for it to be legal (even though its a good price), mabey he'll knock off $50 or $100.

Good luck.

I don't see how your dad is an ***hole at all, lol, he's keeping a car with too much horsepower out of your hands. You're 16, you don't even have pubes yet.

You just got your license a week ago, and you're getting mad because you can't get a car now?

I got my first car a few months after getting my license.

I'm 15. I have plenty of pubes. Does that make it relevant? No.

"Pissed" is the last thing you should be

Be grateful he is getting you a car at all especially since you just got your first license.

Edit: just saw you said your getting it with you money... but even then. Just be patient.. eventually you'll find one.

the thing is is that we never even got an inspection and neither has he. Hes a certified mechanic. He does all the mechanical but he couldnt keep up with the rust.

Thanks for the suggestion DirtyGhettoKids but im almost certain that this car is out of my hands now

Dude, just pick it up. If the rust is REALLY that bad then get a shell and swap everything over. If i had $3500 i would pick this thing up in a heart beat. LOL, show your dad this thread, mabey he'll change his mind... or feel like an idiot. I'll give you my number and he can call me lol, mabey i can persuade him. I remember i did w.e i could to get my first car.

Ive been around looking at lots. 3 to be exact. the first red one i posted on here I was asking your guys' opinion on it if anyone remembers it. it was 3400 for 180km all bondo'd up car. I looked at a silver one a 92 for 4500 with 160km. then this one. Its pretty safe to say that this is the best one ive seen or will ever see for that matter

Rust sucks, but what should you expect for buying a 19 year old car? RUST.

You can buy that car and probably part it out for around $5000. Mabey even more. Sorry im not being very accurate right now, brandy is starting to kick in.

I am in BC, there are so many RUST FREE 240's

Hell I got mine for a couple hundred, rust free.

Look on Vancouver craigslist.

There are at least 10 of them on there right now. Some KA-t, some SR20, and some stock.
