Versa FM Radio Issue / Clarion CX609

I recently installed a Clarion CX609 in my 2009 Versa. I'm having some issues with the FM Radio performance in the CX609. I get a lot of static, and I just can't get a solid signal like I did with the factory radio.

When I made up the wiring harness, I didn't attach the power antenna wire from the HU to the power wire on the antenna adapter. I thought this was just for an automatic antenna, so I didn't bother. Does the Versa antenna have some kind of amplifier on it that requires power? I've heard complaints about the FM performance of the CX609, but I din't think it could be this bad.
