Oh, come on K_Car. Not everyone is interested in speed speed speed. Besides, vanity plates are cheap. And if you think they're expensive, then I'd hate to see your reaction to the price of any decent speed mod (i.e. turbo).

. . .

Why am I getting flak for this? Do I have stickers on my car? No. Do I have chrome wheels? No. Do I have a $50 muffler? No, quite the contrary. Do I think my car is fast? Not really. Am I a "ricer" for wanting a vanity plate? Or are we just trying to look cool for K_car?

They're just liscence plates!

L-I-C-E-N-S-E plates. Settle down, SpellMaster. You asked, we told.

Truth is, the list you posted was gay. If you had IOWNYOU, I'd pull up next to you and laugh (then steal your girlfriend).

I'm sure some of your homeys will post some good ones soon - Freak had a few good ideas a while back.

p.s. You got a problem with chrome wheels? :D

I don't quite see the problem with a $1,200 stereo . . . I happen to like music. What I was trying to get at with the $500 exhaust is I buy quality when I do buy performance parts (which doesn't happen tos often). I'm not the richest person, and I can't afford turbo's or new motors, because personally, speed doesn't really interest me anymore. I want a nice looking, comfortable car to take me where I go. I have recently noticed that girls don't like lowered cars (they're really bumpy), and exhaust is too loud for them.

Of course I buy those things to please me, not anyone else, but its definitely something to think about it.

And I think you're right. They are just lisence plates.

We'll let your female companion be the judge of that.

278 hp, leather, Bose, 7-way power adjustable heated seats and an attitude have a way of turning young ladies' heads...

p.s. Guys who use the whole "speed isn't everything" line are the same ones who think "size doesn't matter".

It's all good - I've had personalized plates that said HIOFCR, HITMAN1 and soon to have NICO Q45 (or BAD AZ Q)...

I'm sorry, but I don't agree with that. Speed ISN'T everything. And if you think it is, that's a shallow way of thinking.

If I wanted something fast, I'd sell my car and buy an M3 or a 350z or something.

Shallow.... Hmmmmm, guilty as charged. I'm gonna go over to the other 17,000 threads about shallow topics like fast cars, hot chicks, loud music (?), lesbian p0rn stars, engine mods, interior upgrades, (did I mention fast cars?), etc. etc. etc.

I'm certain the M3 and 350Z were 2nd and 3rd on your wish list (right behind the 240 with the boring, non-personalized license plates). :D

Have you ever spent 12 hours behind the wheel of a really, really nice car? It's a different world.

Not 12, but 3-4 in a 2001 BMW 330ci. Close enough. :)

Give it a little more time, and you'll eventually realize that most girls don't particularly care what you're driving.

Very true. Quite aware of this.

Besides, if you're going to rely on your car to get you a hand job, a $10K Nissan isn't the car to use.

True as well. I don't rely on my car to get women. But whether I'm trying to get with someone or whether they're just my freind, they'll most likely be driving with me. And comparing to their stock hond civic, they consider my car bumpy and loud. They don't usually appreciate the real benefits of the modifications.

Can we agree on this?

Me and RedRocket were throwing around some ideas the other day on instant messenger because we were bored at work. Can't even remember half of them, but they're not hard to come up with:

Most of these are only 6 characters because I live in KY...don't know how many you can use, but these can obviously be easily modfied.

who the hell cares.. come on now.. yeah its (FOR ME) a must to have a good sounds system in my car.. because (FOR ME) i spend more time in my car then i do at home (i put probily 200 miles on my car per day).. and accully 1,200 for a good system isnt that bad.. BUT i wouldnt spend that much. now then, as for speed if its gonna be a road car u dont need as much speed unless your passing a car on a 2 lane road.. but more power is FUN.. and (FOR ME) power is everything.. but then agine i enjoy going to the track and such. but eh if u like looks and what not good for u but they are right... why do u want a 240 for looks? come on now.. there are better cars out there to pore your money into if u want looks.. but whatever floats your boat right? duct tape floats mine :-/

Sound familiar?

Oh, Jesus. YES. Because I said it. I buy something because I like it, but there will be social costs (for all of you econ buffs). It benefits me, but doesn't benefit others, i.e. freinds in my car. The benefits to me are higher than all inherent costs (not only the actual price).

But there will always be people that won't like it. If I cared so much about whether they didn't like it, I wouldn't have modified my car. Right?

Oh well. This has gone a little further than just license plates. And yes Masterman, I see your point. Thanks. Everyone has his/her own opinion, and it should be respected even if we don't agree with it.

Nick.

As for vanity plates - if your actually trying to boost your own pride in the car (or in yourself) or if you are trying to let others know that your car is better/quicker then please leave them off.

This holds true with all styles/costs of vehicles. I find it both humorous and annoying when a $10K vehical struts around town with a CUL8R proudly displayed on the rear. Similarly, it is troubling to see a Viper with the same.

License plates should attempt to go unnoticed - no odd lettering, no cheesy pictures (although sometimes out of the motorist's control), etc. Virginia has it the best - white plate with blue letters...beautiful.

The only exception is humor...I've spent a little over $30K, not including the initial cost of the vehicle, on my Corvette. I have debated getting a plate with "82 Buick" just to confuse people.

I'm all about confusing people, but if I saw a nice Vette with "82 BUICK" I would probably say WTF? directly followed by "what a damn moron"

Ummm...then why are we on this mailing list if we don't take pride in our cars? I don't see any harm in having a little pride in something such as you own car....especially if you've put a lot of time into it. Yes, there is an extreme, but I think I'm going to get something like 4 BANGR on my car just to make it different and make it stand out. I feel that's one of the main reasons behind customizing your car...to make it different.

Was the guy with VIPR ETR at nopi this year? I've seen that plate before, that's why I ask.

Bottom Line - let your car speak for itself. Pride should be expressed by the fact that you take care of (work on/have work performed/upgrade/etc.) your car... if your using your plate to advertise your vehicle, then why stop there? Get yourself some little "cool" stickers, or, better yet, post a window sticker complete with all options and/or specifications.

Actually I like "4 BANGR". Sounds a bit suggestive.

Hey I used to have a license plate "SE R" on my 98 SE-R. Without it, it would appear as just another 200SX (it was near stock). But with it, it shows I had pride in the car I drove.
