If I wanted something fast, I'd sell my car and buy an M3 or a 350z or something.

They don't usually appreciate the real benefits of the modifications.

Sound familiar?

This holds true with all styles/costs of vehicles. I find it both humorous and annoying when a $10K vehical struts around town with a CUL8R proudly displayed on the rear. Similarly, it is troubling to see a Viper with the same.
License plates should attempt to go unnoticed - no odd lettering, no cheesy pictures (although sometimes out of the motorist's control), etc. Virginia has it the best - white plate with blue letters...beautiful.
The only exception is humor...I've spent a little over $30K, not including the initial cost of the vehicle, on my Corvette. I have debated getting a plate with "82 Buick" just to confuse people.
I'm all about confusing people, but if I saw a nice Vette with "82 BUICK" I would probably say WTF? directly followed by "what a damn moron"

I don't see any harm in having a little pride in something such as you own car....especially if you've put a lot of time into it. Yes, there is an extreme, but I think I'm going to get something like 4 BANGR on my car just to make it different and make it stand out. I feel that's one of the main reasons behind customizing your car...to make it different.

Pride should be expressed by the fact that you take care of (work on/have work performed/upgrade/etc.) your car... if your using your plate to advertise your vehicle, then why stop there? Get yourself some little "cool" stickers, or, better yet, post a window sticker complete with all options and/or specifications.
Actually I like "4 BANGR". Sounds a bit suggestive.
