Anyone here got their rad v mounted with the intercooler on top infront of the engine...i'm sure a few of you at least know what i'm talking about...i understand the benifits of such a setup, but the hacking of the rad mount concerns me...does this weaken it to the point of being dangerous? Anyone have more links on this setup?

This is the wave of the future, I guarantee it. If someone was to make a kit for the V mount right now, they would fly off the shelves, and whoever made it would make a fortune.

And why? Because Komatsu, Bai, Koguchi have them.

Me personally... probably won't ever do it. I don't see a need for it yet.

v mount allows for the cooling benifits of having a large intercooler, and improve throttle and boost response alot because so much piping is eliminated. You also dont have the intercooler in front of the radiator decreasing its cooling efficiency.

There is someone on these boards that has the setup, i have seen pictures. I dont remember much of the detail though...

The stock radiator mounts are about a joke anyhow,

Dosn't look to hard at all, I'm just to lazy to do the work.

Does the SR come any closer or further from the front of the car than the KA? If not i can start measuring and order the parts i need to do it before my SR arives...anyone know?

he is the deal the radiator support is not as much a structural factor as the lower support is thats why you use the strut bar, you would have to make shure that all the air going through your front bumper is plumed directly into the ic or rad. witch means you have to seal off any holes or exit passage ways for air to escape. other wise the intercooler becomes and inter heater. it is very important when doing this set up to take your time and measurments, its best to have a custom intercooler with custom end tanks and the radiator has to be custom, other wise you would be looking at some long funk radiator hoses witch would be prone to leaks and lots of stress do to its length and number of bends. the real reason for cutting into the radiator support is be cause it is easier to do than move the fier wall and aengine bake a few inches, if you try and fit a inter cooler into the tiny space it most likely wont be as efficiant as many of the kits for the 240's you can buy.

You've made some very valid points...i'm gonna design it so that it can be duplicated with ease incase i wanna sell it as a kit on ebay or something...i'll use a alluminum rad and extend the filler neck and upper outlet with alluminum piping and line it up so the rubber hose will be only a few inches and strait...i'm gonna try to basicaly make a wind tunnle from the bumper and block it at the engine forcing it either up through the intercooler and out through the hood or down through the radiator and out under the car...lots of measuring and drawing to do!

another way to help force air in one of the two directions it to have it divided, like <- in the center of the V a plate of sheet metal to divid the air for the rad. and for the ic giving air less places to set disrupting the flow, it is kinda hard to explain but there are I guess Laws as to how air flows though something , i learned it while learining to port and polish. when air flows through something it builds a layer or none moving air on the serface, and any area the air can be at a stand still will build up and create alot of turbulance. i watched a video on the v mount set up, it had a car in a wind tunel and it showed basically what air does and which things you can do to help air flow better. its kinda hard to explain on a computer

Redline, you might want to try autocad for doing measurements and such. Probably make things a little easier.

Probaly take me forever to learn how to use it, lol...paper, pencil with a good eraser, and a lot of swearing....

Oh, anybody got a wind tunnel to lend me, haha...i'd like to see that video!

There is a shop in South carolina that did a bunch of sr setups, and more then a afew of them haev this setup. It looks really nice, i am having 0 problems with my front mount though, so i have no plans to do this. the throttle response would be nice, but i don't have teh money for it

ive done it on an fc rx7 they are very nice and good for daily driven cars due to the fact that you dont catch so many rocks and bugs in your intercooler tearing up the fins

but won't that same stuff hit your radiator?:rolleyes

anyway, that place in South Carolina that was doing the v-mount setup is called "epic Motorsports" from what my friend tells me.

Anyone have a pic of the v-mount install in a S14? I've seen it in many rx's and a few S13's but thats pretty much it...

Yes, it's cool, but totally unecessary for most people on this board's needs. There has already been quite an extensive discussion on this.

search the CA forum... I posted a thread about doing it:)

in the end the cost of fabrication, and all the misc. radiator hosing and custom stuff just wasn't worth it on my budget:( (you have to custom make a filler for the coolant because now the radiator cap is lower than the top of the engine... so the coolant will not fill properly)
