I have been running Amsoil 5w30 signature and a Mobil 1 extended drain filter on both my M56 and my 97 Chevy Express 350 since I have had them. I like the Mobil filters better than the Amsoil ones. I change the car at 5K. The Van has a bypass filter on it and I change the oil ever 25k, change the main filter every 5K and dump a quart in it. Have had the oil analysis done on the Express at 25K after filter changes every 5K and it still had life with the bypass filter in place. If you really want a good filtration system, the bypass works great, just no idea where it would fit on the M56. Bypass filter is good for atleast 50K. I had to do the intake gaskets and oil pan gasket on the Express last summer and replace the leaking plastic timing cover. I put a performance cam in it at the same time. The engine was SPOTLESS internally.

Wow thats impressive. I really need to put on a better oil filter. I think Im going to use Mobil One I use to use them don't know why I stopped. Kids expenses etc I guess just used whatever the dealer did. Im realizing the filter is just as important as the oil.

I recently switch to Mobil-1 filters as well. My dealer lets me me bring my own filter and Mobil-1 5w30 oil for each change. After researching to see who makes OEM filters for Nissan / Infiniti, I found this:

I get Mobil M1-108 filters on Ebay - box of 10 for about $80. That's nearly the same price Inifniti charges for their OEM (Fram) filters.

The filter is probably more important than the synthetic oil of your choice.

The Amsoil bypass filter is an impressive piece. It has an efficiency of 99.5% down to 2 microns. Some say it can actually pull the additives that are added to help the engine out, but if it is, I have not experienced any isses from it in the old 350. The oil looks like new constantly.

I'm still 3.5k from my planned oil change. I'm curious to see the UOA results after 6k on Pennzoil Platinum PurePlus.

I thought I drive more than this...

Next full will either be this stuff again or European Formula Castrol Edge 5W-30 as it's about the only reasonably priced "real" synthetic you can buy.
