2 things.#1. You actually don't get FREE loaner cars. Kelly Infiniti (where I dropped off the car) charges $700 for the 60K service. Norwood and Quirk Infiniti give loaner cars regardless of warranty but they charge $900 for the same service. I had all 3 dealers give me a list of what's included in the service. All were the same. I just dropped it off at Kelly and rented the Echo.

#2. I didn't expect to get a lot for the Q but $3000 is ridiculous. I looked on http://www.autotrader.com in my area for similar Q's. Most 94-96 Q's were selling for $8000-13000 and the mileage varied from 60K to 120K. I was expecting about $7000 for my Q since it's a 95, Touring, and only had 60K miles. I totally agree that cars are bad investments...which is why I was thinking of trading in the Q for a Camry so that with the money I saved on maintenance and depreciation, I could build more equity on my house or even buy more property.

My loaner (which I've had since 12/16/03) is FREE.

Yes, free. Bring it back with 1/2 tank of gas, regardless of the service you're getting performed, warranty or not, free.

Doc - Keep in mind that they can give you more for your car, but it will be reflected in the price of your new vehicle. You're right that $3K is low for your Q, but you should NEVER think you'll get more than $1000 UNDER KBB Wholesale value for your car.

Cars are a depreciating asset - not an investment. Keep that in mind and you'll never screw up.

BTW, modifications are NOT a plus, they're actually a minus. Same reason I would never buy a modded car - Too many potential problems.

A car is transportation device and therein lies its absolute value.

The used car market is flooded right now because of all those new car financing deals available the last couple of years.

Yup, it's not necessarily the mods themselves, but rather the thought of if they were improperly installed, or the car driven like it was stolen during its' tenure with the parts, or the fact that someone else did it, not you, it's the journey, not the destination.

No one here would be excited to find a (insert favorite year here) Q totally hooked up with every mod they wanted...(unless they knew the owner)....but anyone from the same group would travel cross country to purchase a low mileage, well maintained, completely stock model.

Case in point: I bought a 2001 12k mile GSR with 15k worth of mods on it for a pittance a couple of months ago.....sold all the parts w/exchange for good condition oem parts & will <clean house> when I sell it (returned to original condition) in a couple more months. Not to brag, but I'll clear enough profit to buy a 99 Q, cash, but I'll keep my 91 & reinvest elsewhere.

Mods *are* detrimental to resale. Period.

Yup again, and it's hurting businesses who rely on the "keep it running another couple of years" type of customer.

Sell your car privately, or keep it & maintain it. I've spent a lot of a$$ time in many high horsepower street cars from various makes & I have come to love my raggedy 91 Q more than even I believe.

I would (and have) buy a heavily modded car from a club and pay a reasonable extra for the mods if they are well done.

Fred...:)

I had you in mind when I stated "unless you knew the owner" or, like you said, from a club. Or, if the price of the car is consummate with one that's stock & you could part out the go-fast stuff & come out ahead.

Even recently purchased but used performance parts are only worth 50% of original "street price."

I agree.... I would get a modded car from here, because most likely its a good car, and if its not all the members would know that!

Thats why if I mod my car here with the help of the board, I know I will be able to sell it like that here...... Anywhere else Im not so sure of....!

It is not always clear that anyone here is willing to buy. My 1995 Q45, albeit not modded much at all (just 17" G35 wheels and external transmission cooler), but well-maintained (certainly after I got it - the previous owner did not do it justice, I guess), did not sell here to a NICO member. Eventually, my auction listing on eBay got a buyer.

The problem is that most of the members here already have well maintained, reliable Infiniti's.

But as I stated in my earlier post, the way the dealer pays for the "free" loaner is by having higher costs for certain services...they may not be the service that you are having done but nonetheless, you will end up paying for it or may have payed for it from a previous overcharged service.

The dealer where I got the service charged $700 without loaner. Other dealers charged $900 with loaner. So basically, the loaner is being covered by the $200 extra that they charge. All three dealers are within 25 miles of each other so I don't think value of land or employees has that much of a difference.

I have a listing...click on the link in the first post. So far, no interested parties. I'm getting that front corner fixed and the rear bumper repainted...once I do that, I'm taking the ad off.
