Looking for some help as my Pathfinder is in-operable. Had a really hard time starting it this morning as it cranked for awhile. Took it for a drive a heard a clanging from the passenger side engine. Came right back home and found the crankshaft position sensor connector wiring shredded. I have absolutely no idea how it happened. I'm thinking some type of animal? Anyway Nissan told me they don't sell the connector and would sell the hole harness for 2k! It is too short to splice back in. I called local junk yards and spent the better part of the day searching the internet with no luck. Any help would be appreciated or if you know someone parting out a 2003 pathfinder with the 3.5. I can post pics but cant figure out how.
Thank you,

Quoting something I've posted before

I've posted posted photos for other members who didn't intend on posting many pictures and didn't want to go through the process of setting up accounts in photo hosting sites, so if you're interested I can do that for you...
That is a good find from eBay above. Ask them for pictures and see if you're going to need splicing, or if it's a whole harness that needs dashboard access.

Anyway, show us what your situation is and I know I have a few Nissan crankshaft position sensors with pigtails. I'll check to see if I saved the pathy one, and if interested you can have it for free.

Great job Craig! On the pictures that is. And that is a very close cut, don't the 3.5l pathys have a metal bracket over the sensor to protect it?

What are the wire colors - black, yellow and #?
I'll ransack through my garage and let you know.

I would try to solder 3 wires to the short ones on the connector. Then, put 3 pieces of thin heatshrink over those wires, and shrink it. Then stack up a 2 or 3 larger pieces over the 3 wires together (don't shrink yet), then slip on 3 small pieces of heatshrink on the free ends. Solder the other end to the harness, heatshrink the small pieces on the individual wires, then heatshrink the larger pieces over the 3 wires together. Get some plastic spiral wrap to further protect the wires, but be sure the wire is still bendable enough to plug in the connector.

Use electrical solder, preferably 60% tin / 40% lead -- that melts at a lower temperature than lead-free solder (or than tin-lead solder with less tin in it), so maybe less likely to melt the connector. Before soldering to the connector, I would experiment with soldering to the other end of wire, to make sure that the heat doesn't melt the insulation on the 3 wires or make some other problem.

Maybe, maybe not.

Another idea would be to get the connector with a couple of feet of wire attached from a junkyard. They would have to be okay with you cutting the harness.

I would be surprised if that sensor is not on every Nissan V6 -- I think you can work with the one you have .. but it should be easy to get.

Did you go to a yard and look at a Nissan V6

I have not been to any junkyards as yet. All the ones I called were closed. I can try to start making calls tomorrow. As far as soldering I would be a little leery but if worst comes to worst I will try. As it is the connector is pretty much shot.
The wire colors are black-yellow-and black with a white stripe. I found an 2003 pathfinder on craigslist about 3 hours away from me. He said he will sell me that connector for $20 buck. It was in a bad accident so Im waiting for him to tell me if it was damaged in the wreck. Again thanks for all the help and ideas!! I will keep you guys posted!

My local auto parts store sells many connectors. I have no idea how common that connector is -- but many are used throughout the auto industry. Do you have a store close by? You can also cross reference the parts and see if they can they you what other cars come up that use the sensor.

Soldering is easy .. cheap kits are available for under $10

I looked and apparently I have sensors with pigtails for all 3.5 pathy engine sensors but the crank one. It's the one that has a protective shield and has 23731-4w000 written on it.
However, I compared the sensor to a coilpack and they looked similar. I plugged both the pathy coilpack and crank sensor to an Infiniti m45 coilpack harness and they both fit.

I'd venture to say that most coilpack harnesses from a Nissan (maybe Mitsubishi as well?) should work for your needs. The colors might be different, but you can work around that. That should give you a larger window to look for.

*Again, I have lots of these connectors available and I'll still offer one for free if you're interested in covering shipping from Iowa. Depends on how urgent this is, I know.

I appreciate the offer! I will take you up on it. I am willing to give it a shot especially if you think it will fit. I have a loaner car from my brother in law so I can wait. the one in Jersey didn't work out. Small flat rate 2-3 day priority mail is around 5 bucks-well worth it. I can PM you my phone number and we can work payment out. Thanks again,

My brother found this on ebay. (Not sure how because I searched for hours-apparently not hard enough) http://www.ebay.com/itm/181977191302?ul_noapp=true
It looks like it will work. I looked at the actual cranksensor and it looks very similar to the picture in the link. Hope it works because a lot of junkyards are not willing to ruin an entire harness just for this one connector. I let you know when it arrives in a few days.

Part came in today and it fits perfect! 17.99 free shipping. Here is the info for the company that I got it from. They do all types of custom connectors as well as a ton of other stuff. I will post pics of the finished job. Truck started right up!

It came out nicely Craig. Now spray some strong rodent poison on those wires. I kid!
