The following are pictures of my drivers side and passenger door frames. Drivers side has developed a crack at the weld point with rust peeking through and passenger side looks like it is developing one as well. Everyone check your door frames for similar cracks. I have shown it to my service managee and he has taken pictures and will be talking to the dealer rep. to see if they will possibly repair it. I still have another year left for warranty on corrosion/rust. Have not had an estimate done yet. FYI keep your eyes on this and post it and approach your dealership. This is obviously a manufacturing defect so it will be interesting to see what Nissan tells the dealership.

No amount of strut and sway bar installation or "lack of bodyflex" would cause such structural failure (I assume worst case scenario as an excuse by Nissan). It is a tack weld point, which I assume is performed by a robot at the assembly plant.

You've got me afraid to go out to the garage and look; I think my warranty was up this week.

I noticed on mine during delivery that one of the welds on the door frame (top corner) was very sharp and it pierced the paint in the door jam and had already started to rust. They "fixed" it for me (with touchup  ) but it wasn't anything structural like that. Has that door ever been slammed? Not that it would be an excuse for the weld to be splitting.

Thanks for the replies you guys, I was beginning to wonder if anyone was taking it seriously. I advise everyone to keep your eyes open for this and get it checked ASAP. I never ever slam my doors and it angers me to know that after babying the s.h.-it outa this thing it has developed such a serious issue. This is a manufacturer's defect. Never ever again will I buy a car built or assembled in North America! Nissans commercials on how well they test their Altimas is complete Bull!sh-it! :bs:

It's not the door jam, it's the window frame. Where the window frame meets the door above the exterior door handle (on the inside of the door).

Mine are clean, looks like a fluke to me. Curious to see what the dealer/Nissan says about it, should you bring it to their attention.

Holy crap I think we might have an issue on our hands with Nissan. How many km on your car? I'm hitting almost 100k. That little rust spot is just the beginning...pretty soon it will look like mine. Get that checked ASAP and get them to report it to Nissan USA. This is obviously a defect...I will never buy american assembled imports again especially first gen. Lesson learned.

I'm at ~75 000 km. Unfortunately it's past the 3 year surface corrosion warranty... I'll bring it to my dealership's attention, but I'm kinda disappointed as well.

Ahhh your corrosion should be 5 years? Bumper to bumper is 3 years or 60k (km) whichever occurs first. I have another year of corrosion left so I'm hoping it will cover this.

You can show your service manager this forum posting to prove you are not the only one. Thats what im gonna do...

Bahahaha, oh Nissan, still haven't learned from your mistakes have you?

They have always rusted from around the seams, always a s*** seam sealing job.

This is disgusting, I hope they run a recall on this, buy every one of them back and refund your money.

I thought they just built the 240's like crap...seems they really don't know how to build and protect a frame. -_-

Re: Coupe12

I am still waiting for my service manager to show the pics he took of my cracks (hehe) to the Nissan rep that comes around every few weeks. Except hes on a 2 week vacation now apparently. I was told they can not take any action unless the rep says so. Let the s*** games begin! ....sighhh FML I'll probably have to write Nissan Canada a letter again and threaten to boycott their dealerships. The first time I did that when the car was only a year old I was able to get the dealership to buy and install my nismo catback and eibach springs. Anyways take it that I still have another year of rust protection left, and despite my car being babied and even rust proofed underneath; should be funny to see what their response will be to this defect. :inout:

f*** this! Both of my doors have signs of rust and sufficient cracks. What is the severity of this issue in connection with future problems? I hope they issue a recall cause my warranty has run out I do believe..

mine look fine, are you guys hulk slamming the doors? lol

Seems like a decent amount of you have the cracks, and thats just on this forum. It will be interesting to see what they do. That's not really a "fix on site" kind of problem that the dealers could do much about I would think, or at least I wouldn't let a nissan tech near my car with a welder.

No buddy im not "hulk" slamming my doors, I'm almost OCD about my car in terms of keeping it clean and well maintained. That's just my point, that even after babying it so well this problem has developed. The harsh winters definitely increase the chances of rust...nonetheless this should NOT be happening period.

They would send it to an authorized bodyshop.

I'll check mine this evening. I usually clean that area, so it seems odd that I would have missed it.

Took my car to the stealership today and they took pictures of the crack on the driverside to send off to Nissan. Those of you that took your car in for this, did they fix it on their dime? Car is out of warranty but the car only has 7k miles for an 08.
