Sadly, after checking mine, I have hairline cracks starting on both doors. :tisk: Tiny at the moment and you need 20/20 to see them, I'm sure the dealership will tell me I'm Crazy :nono: , but they are there. I'm still under warranty and I will show them this thread so they can see what the next 25k miles will hold for me  .....$5 says they will try and BS me and not sand, reweld and repaint.....Any takers?

Thank god I have a great bodyshop I trust. Would probly charge me $200 for both and the weld would be 10 times better. Who's idea was it to leave such ugly welds like that and just paint over it? It almost looks like they left a little split intentionally, like a zipper not zipped 100%. After looking I cant see how they would NOT expect it to split there. :tisk:

I checked and i've got small cracks too. :-( I think we need to petition for a recall/repair free of charge. This is affecting more than just 1 or 2 people.

Yep I'm driving a coupe I bought brand new in May or June and it's got a chip off the paint and a spot of rust on the driver's side.

So I just got back from getting an estimate just in case they would not cover. They found what the cause of the crack is...misaligned door. At the top side of the door, the black tape is rubbing off against the rubber seal of the car frame if that makes sense. If you look at the top of the passenger door and the driver side when closed it will look different. The stress from the door closing on driver side will cause this crack. So by just repairing the crack it is not going to do much good, door will need to be aligned properly. I'll try and post pics later.

So was it misaligned at the factory or did the hinge loosen over time? Looks like both would be covered by Nissan.

Nissan covered the repair for me. Hopefully it lasts, I dont know the difference between a good weld and a bad weld.

Drivers side has developed a crack at the weld point with rust peeking through and passenger side looks like it is developing one as well. Everyone check your door frames for similar cracks. I have shown it to my service managee and he has taken pictures and will be talking to the dealer rep. to see if they will possibly repair it. I still have another year left for warranty on corrosion/rust. Have not had an estimate done yet. FYI keep your eyes on this and post it and approach your dealership. This is obviously a manufacturing defect so it will be interesting to see what Nissan tells the dealership.

No amount of strut and sway bar installation or "lack of bodyflex" would cause such structural failure (I assume worst case scenario as an excuse by Nissan). It is a tack weld point, which I assume is performed by a robot at the assembly plant.

Hey man, so what do you think of the pictures I posted of my door frame? They are above, is that normal or an issue?

Thanks

I took my 10 Altima coupe to the dealer yesterday and they said that the weld is covered by body filler and primer, that the weld is not cracked its the filler/primer. they said they would take care of it if my cars under warranty, which it is. Most of the Nissan dealers will probably take some touch up paint and cover it up, like their going to do to mine. I already have touch up paint and have applied it, but I am taking my car to a friends shop to sand, check the weld and repaint it after making everything is all good and right.

WOW haven't been back in over a year....sorry guys. But been busy with life.. anyways i see this thread has blown up. Looks like a legit issue. Guess ppl like me out of warranty are SOL unless those s*** heads at Nissan can start a technical bulletin.

MODS: since this seems to be a wide spread issue which obviously Nissan isn't addressing yet, even with new cars, why not make this a sticky? :squint:

Just seems like a major design flaw....ahh yes good old American quality :gapteeth: . Maybe if it was actually manufactured in Japan. I wonder if the G37 has this issue? or remotely close to it? Since they share some of the same parts. :squint:

The Infiniti G37 shares ZERO parts with the Altima Coupe.
