Hi everyone,

I purchased a Nissan Rogue 2018 Radio/Nav Display Unit (AIVIP32R0) from a scrap yard to replace my perfectly working Nissan Rogue SV 2016 Radio Display Unit (CQ-FN45E2GX). I really wanted the AndroidAuto and Nav system in my Nissan Rogue 2016.

So I went from:

To:

I made a custom wiring harness for the new display unit and installed it in my Nissan Rogue 2016.
Everything works fine (Android Auto, navigation, steering wheel controls, auxiliary, etc) except for two things...

PROBLEMS TO SOLVE
1- No buttons illumination.
2- Don`t receive the rear camera image signal on Reverse.

*** For the rear camera, I am reading 12V on the reverse wire when I switch to Reverse, but read 0V (output) to power the camera, when it should be 6V on Reverse.

MY WIRING HARNESS

I made my wiring harness based on the following documents:

That pinout guide has the illumination control in the wrong spot for a Navi. The input is on pin 58 of the big 40-pin connector, Violet if you have the original pigtail.

The camera issue might get complicated, all the Navi cars also had Around View Monitor (AVM), which used a separate AVM C/U to run the cameras and generate the pictures. The composite came in on pins 48 (-) and 49 (+), but I think you'll need to rig an external power source for the cam.

Thanks VStar650CL. When you say pin 58, what pin on my diagram are you referring?

For the camera, I tried to power it using a external source and a 12V to 6V converter. But it doesn't work... I would like to better understand the purpose of the pin 52 (camera detection) of the 32pin connector.

The big connector on the back of the Navi should be 40 pin, numbered 21~60. If it's 32-pin then I don't think that unit actually came out of an '18, that's the layout for '16~'17.

I understand. I thought the 40 pin connector was numbered 1-40. Thanks.

No, on Nissan C/U's the pin numbers are never duplicated. If there are multiple connectors, the numbering on each subsequent connector picks up where the prior connector left off. In the case of AV head units, 1~20 are always on the main power connector. So the 32 or 40 pin connector beside it always starts at 21.

Here`s the updated pinout number of the 40pin connector of my custom wiring harness.

Let me get you the wiring diagram for the '18 tomorrow at the shop. Can't do it from home (I could, but Nissan had a server crash and online ASIST has been down all day). Bump this thread tomorrow morning so I don't forget. You can get the complete AV wiring diagram for your '16 right here in Nico:

I PM'd you for your email, I have the PDF WD's for the '18 ready for you. I see you only have four posts, if it doesn't let you reply it's because new members need 10 before they can do PM's. Either put up 6 more someplace or see Rogue One about special dispensation.

The illumination is now working ! The V-CAN wires of the 40pin (2018) were connected to the wrong connector (2016).
In other words, the pin 21 (V CAN-H) and pin 41 (V CAN-L) must be connected to the pin 41 (CAN-H) and pin 42 (CAN-L) of the connector M77 (2016) found behind the odometer.

Here's the updated version:

Image

As you can see, I updated my approach to power the rear camera, but I still can't make it work.
I don't really understand the pin 52 (camera detection) of the 32pin connector (2016). Is this wire positive or negative ? Is it important ?

Image

If the 2018 radio had 360 camera, can it be problematic if I only have one rear camera ?

Thanks

Yah, that's the issue. It looks from the FSM like all the '18 navis had AVM, so the unit will be expecting the composite feed to come from an AVM C/U and not a camera. The AVM C/U is also active on the CANbus, so it may be that your navi is expecting a CAN ack or some other data before it will look at the feed. I'm not sure how or if you can get around that, Nissan tells us next to nothing about the internal workings of the system.

Dunno if it will help you, but I just emailed the '18 AVM diagrams and reference.

Hi alaroche_eng,

Can you check something on your 18 Navi unit? Will the radio boot with just BAT, IGN and AUTO ACC powered with 12V? Does the radio need the M-CAN or V-CAN to boot up? I'm working on the same swap you are in an 17 SL and I did this but I don't have the 17 to plug it into right now, and my radio appears dead.

My 2016 OEM radio and new 2018 OEM radio can boot from BAT and IGN without M-CAN or CAN or V-CAN.

Then my radio is dead. Will return it and get another one. Thanks!

To make it work (camera image signal displayed on the Displa-Unit on Reverse), I had to buy and install the Nissan Camera-Control-Module (eBay ~70$). So to get the 360 view, I connected the camera (video signal and power) to the module, the module to the CAN, the Ignition wire to the module and connect to output video signal from the module to the Display-Unit. It wasn't working because the Display-Unit was waiting for a "acknowledge" signal from the module (CAN) on Reverse.

Hi alaroche_eng,

I got my radio installed. Camera, illumination, everything works EXCEPT Android Auto/Carplay. The iPhone is detected but cycles charging and the Android doesn't detect the phone. Did you swap the USB port or use a special cable or something?

Also side note: what did you do about making an AM/FM radio antenna adapter?

For the FM, I removed the 2 wires from the connector and plugged it to the radio. For Android auto, I was lucky enough to make it work without doing anything special. I'll check the version of the software in the radio. I'll give you feedback soon. A+

Thanks, you're the man. I'm gunna SW update mine, I've got a 17.5 SL w/ the light up USB ports. Is yours also the light up one in the 16?
Gunna try the FM depin hack and see how that works.

The problem was so simple. Android Auto was disabled in the menu! Works great!

Hey VStar,

Would you happen to have the WD/Pinout for the 18 Rogue USB ports? I found the one for the rear USB charger but there's an 8 pin connector on the radio USB port and need to figure out how to adapt that to the 6 pin on the 17

The front ports are in the '18 WD, connectors M7 and M11. The actual USB link is on M11 which is the standard Nissan USB mini connector and goes to the Black USB port M126 on the head unit. The 8-pin M7 is only for the Aux jack and backlighting. The pinout for that is:
1) Aux Jack right channel, Green
2) Aux Jack left channel, Blue
3) Illumination minus, Gray
4) Illumination plus, White (USA build) or Green (except USA)
5) Aux Jack ground, Yellow
6) NC
7) Chassis ground, Black
8) Batt+, Red

Got my radio fully installed except the AM/FM antenna. Gunna have to create an adapter, but thats tomorrow job.

Got everything working, used a 2018 USB port + SL radio. Bose amp, Android Auto, phone charging, Steering wheel control, illumination, 360 camera, everything is working beautifully. Put car back together, testing, seems great. Looks 100% factory except for the wheel not having ProPilot :P

Note: my airbag light came on due to running w/o the HVAC panel. It is a clearable error and went off.

Thanks Vstar and alaroche_eng for the super useful information!

You're welcome! Enjoy! If someone needs the Camera-Control-Module (AVM - Around View Monitor) 2018 pinout, I have the guide (thanks to VStar).

FWIW: Android auto works with the original connector, but it cannot charge. It also will not work with my Motorola MA1 adapter. Using the 2018 USB port, I get full speed charging AND the wireless AA adapter works.

Its not too bad to wire up, if you can find one. I got the 18 USB port w/ full lower radio trim panel with a bunch of other stuff for $100 at a pick n pull.

PS: does your gauge cluster song information not work with Android Auto? it works with all the other inputs and bluetooth, but not AA. Not particularly worried, but its just a note of the 17 cluster not knowing what the AA input is I guess. I'm not swapping an 18 cluster to make it work, screw that.
