They are easy to identify the differences, I don't think anyone else has bought the wrong one.

Hopefully not. But like I said, if you aren't specifically checking and the plates and such seem to look right..

But hey, I've had a crash course in the differences between all of the different types of RB's in the past few days, so it was a really good learning experience. I also now have an RB25, RB26 FSM in English to go off of, so no big deal.

Heh, expect some new pics if we have time before Nopi.

Thanks again guys.

Why don't you just look at the stamp on the block?

Please read the thread. The stamp is too rusted over to read.

The SDU guys just said they think maybe the R32 RB25 GTST engine didn't come with VVT.

WTH??

Lol... weeeeee.

Ok, according to the SDU folks, the RB25DE did not have VVT. There is a possiblity that this is an RB25DE block converted to turbo. I'm going to look at the engine here in a few minutes and try to find out one way or the other. In short, Im' checking the Fuel Injectors and front plate if it's still there.

I did read the thread.. although I skipped that part obviously. You should be able to take some sand paper to the stamp though and brush the rust off... unless it's REALLY bad.

And no, the DE never had VVT.

EDIT: you said that nevermind.

Ok, the SDU guys are contradicting some of this information.

There are guys on there with both R32 and R33 RB25's both with and without VVT. Apparently VVT has no relation to whether it's an R32 or R33 block, and no relation to series I or series II.

My best guess is that it is a converted RB25DE or an RB20DET from a Cefiro.

Btw, the ID plates were ground down smooth, so somebody was trying to cover something up. I can see no justifiable reason to grind those plates down intentionally unless it were to disguise a block.

We really need some clearcut information on which RB's had what, and what the real differences are. The information on here is conflicting with what Skyline owners are saying, and vice versa.

The only concrete piece of info I have is that 20's have top mount injectors and 25's have side mount. This block has side mount.

-shrug- I have no idea what's really going on, but I still think there is something not right about this block. I'm going to try and find out exactly what the differences between RB's are when I can, but until then...

Feel free to jump over to Skylines Downunder forum and see for yourself. The name of the thread is "Need identification help... RB20 or RB25?", under Technical->Performance.

I have an FSM, but it does not cover RB20DET's, only RB20ET's, RB25's and RB26's.

Email or post some part numbers, I can crossreference them to find out what they came from, ECU, sensors anything. Maybe help narrow this wild goose chase down a bit.
