no it wont... because the air travels through the IC first

then to the radiator, so it gets the first taste of cold air being serve to the engine bay

Well! I have the car back together and running and I must say this made a huge difference in response! Throttle is much, much quicker and spool is a ton faster (those are scientific results btw)! I don't have any pics yet as I was working on this super late and didn't get pics. I still have to build ducting and seal around the intercooler and radiator to keep the air going where I want it. I've driven the car for two days and haven't had any issues with overheating. I have to install a better temp gauge because I'm using the dash one right now but it was solid at the same place it usually is. I may in the future get an intercooler with the endtanks pointing towards the engine for even better piping routing. I ended up welding the core support because I cut the lip off to make room for the intercooler (pics will show what I mean better).I'll let you guys know of any issues that come up and I'll post the pics asap.

Here's some pictures of the piping. I took them with a camera phone so they aren't the greatest.

On the hotpipe I ended up having to use the black piping because I don't have any way to weld aluminum. I'm going to have an aluminum HKS flange welded to a one piece tube so I don't need a million hose clamps and connectors.

On the cold side I just took the upper cold pipe from an ebay intercooler piping kit, cut it in half, and turned the lower part around. I'm going to have this welded back together eventually.

I haven't had any overheating issues or problems in terms of heat.

Here's a bit of my old setup. It was ok, but it had some packaging issues.

You can see how tall the IC sat in this pic:

It worked very well, but I was only running 12 psi through it. The new setup is a bit better IMO

Mounted underneath the core support, so I could move the radiator back to a stock location. It has two upper mounts and one lower mount connected to the middle hood latch support on the core supports.

I unded up getting some multilayer 90 degree silicon elbows for off the intercooler. They allowed for the pipes to be ran a bit tighter to the engine and I didn't have to hack as much from the front body to make everything fit.

It looks a lot like mine. I still have to build ducting and seal things off a little bit. I'm running 16psi on a gt2871 and it has significantly improved both throttle response and spool.

man theres are other ways to keep the man from noticing your I/C. Example given.

thing to remember when painting things like I/C's and rads is not to go thick. as well theres a paint they sell just for things like this.

Why do you say that? Flow is through the intercooler to the radiator. Not the other way around. It doesn't make direct contact with the radiator. I have a hard time believing that an intercooler this large will be heat soaked from the radiant heat of a radiator. I guess it could warm up if I sit in traffic for long periods of time.

I want to try getting an air temp sensor before and after the intercooler to see how well it is actually working.

No too much head the rad is 160-220 degrees the hotside of a turbo goes up to 800 its still cooling, just hidden better. Yeah it will be a little hotter, but remember some cars don't intercool. However you should look into meth injection with that.

This is an old thread but I can tell you OP probably did not go this route because:

This will not work if you are going silvia front end because you have no where to mount your headlight brackets or HEADLIGHTS for that matter now..

agree...nice thought tho it would be cool but arnt you scared for your car to over heat and s***??.youre blocking your radiator so pretty much its useless now...if i was you i would of tried a top mount intercooler just hot they come on the Bluebird SR20DET

I was thinking about moving radiator and A/C 1"or 2" back, towards the engine to make more room for smaller intercooler. I know that lots of people do that , I just didn't see anybody who kept A/C with that setup.

My buddy did a midmount somewhat like this, he had 2 fans, and a thin heat shield in between the intercooler and the rad, worked fine, everything stayed pretty cool.

i've had this setup for a few years, and it is ALMOST ideal for me.if i was going to do it again, i would place the i/c UNDER the rad support, not behind it.i have NO cooling issues, but i am still going to build sheetmetal block-off plates/shrouds

Here is some other pretty cool intercoolers:

I am guessing mid mound and high mount = the same?

Seems like you cant keep your AC with these types of set ups from what people say.

Cool pics (not mine):
