He blew it up. He is going to build another motor and sell it afterwards. By his words though, he is in no hurry to sell it. It was on other forums, forgot which one.

I want to start out by thanking the guys at Abel Racing in Midwest City, OK (Specifically Erwin, who goes by Efeezi on the various online forums.) You guys have been a pleasure to work with, and your knowledge of all things Nissan is amazing.

It's been six months since the 240SX encountered bearing damage, which led to a full motor rebuild.

This downtime gave me the opportunity to rethink the current engine configuration, etc. While I was happy with the power of the Borg Warner 74mm (1.10 A/R) turbo with 9" cover, the spool characteristics weren't ideal for a street car IMO, and I wanted something that could make similar power, while providing a larger powerband.

After consulting Borg Warner, they recommended their 72mm (.90 A/R) ETT Turbo with their new 10" Race Cover, which has been dyno proven to make up to 60whp over their standard 9" cover.

The motor was rebuilt with an N1 Crank, JE Pistons, and Eagle Rods. Head was left untouched from the previous setup, complete with Tomei Hardware and 260/260 Poncams.

The car now sports the new Tial 50mm Q BOV, which sounds amazing, to go along with the Tial 60mm wastegate, and I'll have some dyno videos to post this weekend, pending all goes as planned.

Here's some sneak peaks from what's to come. Forgive the dust, it's been tucked away in the corner of the shop for several months awaiting parts.

how did your bearings fail? oil problems? I've been modding my rb26 for reliability... have already spent about 3k on the oil system (had a custom oil cooler setup). need to buy two more really important items and i'll feel safe. in particular, the tomei oil pump and a race rb25 pan from australia with race baffles, windage tray, and new pickup. my car doesn't make near the power as yours, too. only 394hp on a dynapack

awesome car. you took it to the max

The car was completed today, and I'm very pleased with the finished product. The plan is to dyno tune the car tomorrow, and I'll upload the graphs as soon as we finish. The car sounds beastly in person, I wish you all could see it in person.

Special thanks again to corporate sponsors: BF Goodrich Tires, Tial Motorsports, Borg Warner, Abel Racing, Je Pistons, Eagle Rods, Tomei USA, and many others along the way for your help with the vehicle.

As promised, here is the debut video of the new setup:

There is no possible way you spent $3,000 on your oil setup and still don't have a pump. I've got a full 4-stage dry sump setup with custom pan, reservoir, mounts, cooler, and braided steel lines all the way around and don't have $3K into it.

I'm looking into getting a dry sump setup for my rb26, where did you get the parts for yours? I'm just trying to compare prices. Thanks a lot.

The pump I bought new from Weaver. The drive mandrel is from ATI which ties into the ATI underdrive pulley. The rest is custom.

Xtreme Motorwerks was designing or "had" a dry sump kit for the RB26 like they were using on their drag 350Z. I tried to find some info on it but apparently they have since let their website registration default. This tells me either they are no longer around or their management is less than stellar.

Yea i know of them and that they had a kit, but as you have mentioned...what isn't there can't be bought.

I don't know if you did your own fabrication... but I presume that you did, if you have a 4-stage dry sump setup with a custom oil cooler. I don't have the time, skills, or resources to do it myself. Including the cost of a oil cooler and custom fab for that (mount, shroud), accusump with epc valve, lines, fittings, labor, etc... came out to right about 3k so far.

My cooler has been setup so that it is inside the engine bay, right behind the passenger side headlight. When I don't need light (track day in particular) I remove the functioning headlight and place in a gutted headlight that serves as a ram air intake. The gutted light has molded mesh in the front to model the replaced headlight, and it looks very clean. Cold air goes in the ram headlight, through the shroud, through the cooler aided by a pull fan, and down the cold side of the motor. I haven't seen oil temps over 95 degrees C after a spirited drive... and that's in 100 degree az weather. Normal driving in that weather I never see more than 80 degrees C oil temp.

The work was done by DynoComp here in Scottsdale. It's pretty cool, no pun intended.

I've been following this build for about a year now, receiving emails whenever there is a new post and the car is sick fast looking, but that is it, just fast LOOKING.

I've seen the car on it's dyno thrown and idling with a little rev here and there, but never in action. I can't stand a car, no matter how good it looks just standing around doing nothing. I got kills left and right on my 1j set up that took less than 2 weeks and I just want to see what this car can do other than look pretty and being worked on for years now. Not to mention the thousands of sponsor's money.

Not knocking you build, it's bad *** and nice to look at, just annoyed of only dyno and part updates.

Update:

Had the car shot yesterday by two automotive photographers here in Oklahoma City. I’ll let you be the judge of the new setup; these really do the car justice. Hope you enjoy!

That car has a near perfect ride height. It looks lower in person too. Also, the rear will squat once he takes off, and there HAS to be some room to allow that to happen.

Agreed. The wheels and tires will not tuck under the fender so no lower until the fenders are rolled/pulled.

How did the car do at IFO? I heard you had some pretty big expectations for it. Im curious to see how the R32 diff changed things up over the 3.54s you had in there.
