LOL I must have accidently moved a sentence this is what it should have said.

I bought the SS for my S14(with S13 SR swap) and although every other SS I have works fine for an S13 and S14 (B&M and C's) this one does not. I guess I will just have to wait till I can find a C's . The very bottom of the shifter, the piece that goes into the shift linkage, is too far away from the sphere shaped part of the shifter. I cannot use this SS to test it out. I was really dissappointed because I hated the notchyness of the B&M and the C's shifter is a friendsnless the manufactorer of the Megan SS will fix/swap their SS. I must say I am dissappointed that this didnt work out.

You probably turned the plastic piece upside down when you removed it. It should work, we did the same thing and it took me about 15 minutes to try to figure out why it wasn't going in all the way.

Sorry to say, no that was not the problem. After sleeping on it the problem is that I have a tanabe transmission mount bushing. That makes the shifter sit about a quarter of an inch higher. That is stopping the sphere shaped part from falling in all the way. The very bottom of the shifter is all the way against the shiftlinkage, there are no plastic pieces in the way.

Hey Underground,

For those of us who remain undecided, would you be able to post step by step instructions (preferably with labled pictures...) of exactly where/what to cut? I know it would help me get a better feel for the install.

Also, for those who've gotten their shifters in already (like deCksy) What are your opinions on the quality and performance?

Thanks! I'm sooo close to putting in my order. Just wanted to put some last doubts to rest.

well, i'm dont want to say much about it because i havent driven any other 240s with a shortshifter.... but on quality.. its pretty top-notch.. doesnt seem like it would break easily... the shifting is shorter.. but i dunno how much comparing it to other brands out there.... sorry for such a bad review... lol

i still needa buy those damn screws... my shifter is still loose and feels like i'm on neutral in every gear lol

If anyone wants to buy mine it will come with the screws for 55 shipped. Like I said before I tried to install but to no avail since I have a tanabe transmission bushing.

Let me try to walk you through this making this as basic as possible...

1.) Remove shift know (unscrew off)2.) Rmove shifter boot (attaches to speaker bezel)3.) Now you can clearly see the innards of the shifter.4.) Remove the two zip ties that are holding the lower rubber boot around shifter. (Rubber boot keeps anything from getting inside the transmission). Once these are cut, lift boot to expose inside of shifter. Pic 1.

5.)Now to remove old shifter, there is a C shaped ring pin with holes on each side that holds the shifter in the socket. (Its inside the socket FYI) You will need a special pair of pliers, like these to remove it which will free the shifter....

6.)Once you pull that pin, the short shifter should easily come lose. Once you've pulled it, we need to remove two parts off of it!

7.)This is what will make or break the install, so follow these instructions. (This why all you guys with Pilot Shift Shifters are complaining because its lose. You have to use the plastic ring and rubber grommet or the short shifter will have tons of play!)

You need to take a hacksaw and cut off the plastic ring and rubber grommet.

I only cut one side of the plastic ring and then pulled it off. For the rubber grommet, you only need to cut a small slit out of just the top so that you can slide it off the old shifter and reuse it on the new.

Here's a pic of the cut plastic ring for demonstration....

Here's a pic of the cut on the rubber grommet, which I used a zip tie to hold back in place.

Okay, 50% completed. That's all the custom fabrication you have to do! Oh so simple! Just to make sure you've done this right, I'm going to add a little diagram.

8.) Now it's time to put it back together... Sitt new shifter in shifter well, and make sure plastic ring is in position. Re-install the C ring to put shifter firmly into place.

9.) Now it's time to add that little round box you've been wondering about.... You need 4 screws from Autozone...Part #780-225. They are Metric #6, 25mm or 1 inch bolts. You will have to buy two packs, as they only come 3 bolts to one pack.

10.) There is a groove on the outside of the shifter well that the two silver C shaped brackets will fit around. The Green plate (with Green ring underneath it), sit on top of the shifter well, and you will screw the plate to the C brackets. This will ensure the most tight fit and will keep the shifter from bouncing around.

( You really can't tell in this photo, but those c brackets are there below the plate. It's what the plates screwed too, FYI)

11.) Next step as you can see in the photo above is to push the rubber grommet back down into place to cover the shifter well.

12.) Replace shifter boot and shift knob! YOU ARE DONE!

Should look like this when completed.

Just in case you guys are still confused, here's the diagrams I got from another forum...This diagram doesn't replace the plastic ring, which is the reason why everyone else complains about their shifter being ultra loose! Between this and the plastic tip on the end of the shifter, it will most definately be loose!

The plastic tip will also prevent that rattling sound that many aftermarket short shifter owners complain about...

This one has better pictures than I've got. Should show you some close ups of the shifter well.

Make sure you follow my directions however!

Can you send me a digital camera pic?

I don't have any play in mine, when I use the plastic tip off the old one.

Let me see how you have it installed, and then I'll walk you through it...

I got mine today and installed. I think i had the same problem as decksy at first, where the square plate wouldnt get tight, and could move around. This was solved by me realizing that the little angle pieces that it bolts to were upside down. The nuts on them should be facing down, this cleared up all problems, and the shifter works great now, its solid, theres some slight vibration at low rpms but seems to go away at higher rpms. It nice and precise, but not too much so. The screws i used were the ones underground listed except i went with the flat head style so that they mount flush on the square plate. For gettting the bushing/tip off i used an old fashioned style bottle opener, that worked like a charm, then i set the tip on the end of the shifter and gave it a good wack with the hammer and it popped right on. Follow the second page of the C's/pilotmotorsports directions he posted here, thats what you need to do. Anyways im very pleased with the shifter so far, and it got here extremely quick, well worth the $60 total.

My buddy has the B&M and its very very nice, but almost too precise. I mean its definitely worth the money, but i'd rather spend that much money on other things. The C's, Pilot Motorsports, and Megan Racing ones are the same. I went to the friday night drags tonight, and learned the one sold here is kinda noisy, and i did all the bushing swaps on it. It especially is noisy at higher rpms, i guess earlier when i posted i hadnt really driven hard. I do like the feel though, dramitic reduction in throw, and it feels solid. To reduce the noise im thinking a home made gasket made of some type of foam pad to go in between the plate and the transmission, that should quiet it down alot. Hope that helps.

thanks for the imput.

"I mean its definitely worth the money, but i'd rather spend that much money on other things."

that's what i was thinking im mean a short shifter is just for shifting $182 for good shifting im my opinion is kind of too much if you think about it.

Im not going to go drag racing with it so it's not important.

Thanks again

You can count me in on this one. But how long does it take to ship? Same day shipping means that it goes out the same day, right?

No its not hard at all, my problem is that I already have another part that is stopping this one from working correctly.

hmmm... what kind of mounts did you get again, pristine? Would all aftermarket mounts raise the transmission and render the shifter unusable? I was thinking of getting new mounts eventually and I don't want this to be a problem...

No dont think that at all. The tanabe transmission mount is an insert into the stock mount, no other companies make one like it. You would be safe buying the one from JGY since it is a total replacement of the stock mount (and a great one at that). You would also be fine with the Nismo mount even though I think those suck.
