Good Lord!

I'm glad you're OK... a couple of quick first thoughts:

* Good Lord, I'm glad he's OK * Look at the angle of the steering wheel, pointing up * Look at the reduced wheel base on the driver's side

Just goes to show, you can't always avoid getting hit - as many here can attest. Be as safe as you can, all.

Speedy recovery Ty –

the impact did a number on the car. I can't believe all he did was break his ankles. That is some serious carnage there.

Either way. heal up quick dude.

So Ty sends me a text yesterday telling me the s13 is gone. I almost lit into him for selling his car and then he says something about being in the hospital. I called him and he told me what happened and I was stunned. As bad as this is, it could have been SO much worse. I'm so glad that it wasn't, but it goes to show that any one of us could be gone in the blink of an eye.

Ty, I'm just down the road man if you need anything.

Thanks so much for all the kind words everybody. I really do appreciate it. I'm doing really well now, got home late saturday night night after a royal cluster**** at the hospital (don't get me started).

I haven't had a chance to look at the car yet in person but at this point i could honestly care less. My new rear coilovers just came in the mail yesterday though! :-/

All well, i haven't decided what i'm going to do yet, but i'll have another car sometime soon. The guy said he didn't see me at all, so i should have a pretty strong case. I should have some money to play with something i decide to buy when the time comes out of all this :P. Like i said, i got extremely lucky and am certain the harness and seat saved my life. No doubt. I was awake during everything, didnt black out once. It took the emergency crew about 45 minutes to pull me out of it. From what i hear they had about 6 jaws of life out there and then alot of actuators.

Good news, i now have a 240 vert!!They had to end up opening it like a clamshell to get me out. My (left) dislocated ankle popped back into place when i was on the board getting carried out of the car, so now it is just swollen up and sprained. My right ankle is borken and I had surgery friday night to put two screws in it. Oh boy lol.

I'm still on a bunch of pain meds, but at least im at home, so sorry if this only kindof makes sense, i just wanted to let everyone know how much i appreciate all the kind words any prayers. I didn't know that nick had posted this on here, so i'm a little late to getting here, i apologize and have not overlooked this.

Thanks again,Tyler

Sounds like you are blessed to have come out of that with such minimal injuries. Not that those injuries don't suck... but it could have been much worse.

Welcome to the 'vert club! We'll make you an honorary member. Sorry it wasn't on the terms that you wanted.

Hope your recovery goes well. Feel better!

What is it that everyone says about harnesses and how they are bad unless you run a full cage? This seems like it helped here, but is it just since he didn't flip? Hope you have a speedy recovery man.
Yes its because he didint flip. IF you flip without a cage, the harness does what it was designed to do. hold you SNUGLY in place, while the roof caves in on you. a three point harness would allow your body to shift as the roof crushes you.

You also need a cage or at least a harness bar because if the harness is not mounted at the proper angle behind the seat, the impact force can damage the shoulders severely.

Glad he will be relatively ok. Id be pissed at the van driver...If i saw that happen to a friend of mine id have to kick the dude in the balls and toss him a defensive driving school card. cant stand stupid drivers.

One thing that I'm slightly confused about, I thought that 240's had airbags in the driver's sides at least? I don't see any blown bags.

I don't know much about those kind of cars though.

Good luck with the insurance and settlement.

S14's yeah, but not S13's. They never had driver's airbags ever. At least in USDM land...

1 broken ankle is AMAZING! Seeing how far that driver's wheel pushed up makes me surprised the thing didn't upper-cut your face, ty! You must have a former ninja guardian angel.

Glad to hear you are okay, and sorry about your car. I always tell people that if you are going to wreck a car, you've got to go all the way, and you totally puled off at least a 9 out of 10. You totaled that car out like a pro man. Best wishes for a speedy recovery, and may tons of hot chicks take pity on you and show you their bewbs.
