Wow. I didn't think it was even realistically feasible to do that to a J. I like it.

i called the shop, and the mechanic who built the car wasnt there.

i started asking the guy if the stock manifold and downpipe cleared the steering shaft, and he had no idea what i was talking about.

he said the mechanic will be in on monday, so im gonna call tomarrow. im dying to pick that guys brain about this.

im going RB either way, but i wanna know if the clearance issue isnt as bad as i think it is.

From the listing:"And since i own the shop, every bit of spare time was invested into this car. "

If so, then his attention span fell a little short when it came to the rather careless battery installation in the trunk.

and whats up with the single exhaust? you put all that time into it and leave the factory exhaust? i dont think this was done with very much care.

i just dont trust other peoples work. i know ive cut corners on customers cars, and if it isnt your car its just another job, so why would he be expected to treat it like his own. i would be leery of the quality on this one. but thats just me.

well, thats just the muffler. i would bet the piping is still stock.

the stock j piping is dual back to a single muffler. if the exhaust was redone i dont see why the would go to a single muffler. doesnt make sense.

the center part that has the infiniti logo is just a piece of plastic. takes 5 minutes to swap

true, but he had to cut that piece to make it fit. (the plastic intake collector finisher) On the j30, the balance tube goes closer back towards the firewall.

in any case, i saw that car on ebay just now, and i searched nico to see if anyone else had found it.

looks like you guys did.

i had the same inkling as Ivory, i want to know what he did about the manifolds, but other than that, i am uninterested in his handiwork. Also interesting/good to know that SMICs fit behind the turn signals, but they really need ducts.

i guess i will forgo the long distance call if Ivory can get us some info.

let us know everything you find, im very interested.

other things i noticed - doesnt seem to be proud of intake plumbing, otherwise there would be a shot of it. ...and No boost gauge?

its still a steal at a grand, even if just for the engine.

also, if it had turned out amazingly well, do you think he would be selling it>? so does this confirm that the auto wont cut it with 300hp? quite likely.

330hp for JDM? no.

let us know what you come up with ivory!

They probably just put the USDM plenum on it, since they are the same, to make it look more "stockish".....

I guess this is what makes buying a modded car scary.... Your not sure whats been done, and essentailly have no way of finding out unless you know the person....

im gonna try to get out of work early one day this week to go look at it.

i would have been able to go today, but i spent 3 hours air-chiseling ball joints out of the LCA's on a 3 series. what a pain in the ***, i hate BMW.

well, according to the ever accurate 1/4 mile calculators, if a 210 hp J30 with a 200 lb driver pulls a 16.1 1/4 mile, then a 300 hp J30 with 50 extra lbs should pull a 14.4

2.4 seconds too slow for me.

haha, and they pride themselves on their suspension. Well, at least the geometry,... clearly not ease of maintenance.

the question is, why stop at 300?

another important factor, which may or may not have not been accounted for in your calculation is that the torque increase in the twin turbocharged engine is even more substantial than the HP, thus, it might be a bit faster than you anticipate.

A while back I did some complex calculations, and the 1/4 for a 5-speed J30 with the Vg30DETT came around just over 14, and I agree, the performance just doesnt cut it there.

I did some playing with numbers and it seems aything below 500 wouldnt cut it.

yeah. its great to ride in, but when they break down it causes headaches.

the BMW dealers must have some special tool to remove the joints from the control arms. the end is closed so theres no way to press it out. you have to dig it out.

yup. thats why i figure a single turbo rb26 and a 5 speed would be perfect.

it could get me 11.8-12.0 without pushing to close to the 600 safe limit on stock internals. easy maintanence [straight six, with a top mounted single turbo, one downpipe, one exhaust pipe, and an external wastegate]

id give it a year, and after that if im feeling suicidal, ill pull the motor for pistons and rods.

thats why im dying to make it turbo. so i can wastegate it at 12 psi or so for normal driving, and bump it up for power.

Thats going to be a killer J Ivory, seriously.

My J30 will be going under the knife soon for a sexy 5-speed swap. My transmission decided to completely eat itself a week ago. It was acting up for quite a while but my warrenty has expired so I was just riding it to the end saving up, so this is coming out of my pocket. Taking the car to Infiniti would just be asking them to stick a 4,000.00 bill in my butt, so that won't happen and I'm not going to cheap out on my car and have a 5 dollar-an-hour mechanic put 1 in. If I had the resources and time I would do it myself, but that's something that just won't happen either. Now I've been going to a couple of performance shops around here that my friend brought his 300Z to and I'm getting some quotes on a 5-speed swap. So far it hasn't been too brutal, and the shop that I liked the most quoted me at just over 3k.

So, since I have to pay this thing myself, I'm getting exactly what I want done (and done right). I'll put picks up to show you how we are modding the center console for the handbrake and shifter. I looked online for a Leopard J. Ferie 5-speed but found none. Hopefully this won't become too ugly, but I'm not settling for less. I know that keeping the interior as clean and nice as it came off the assembly line is priority number 1, so I hope that will help in your quest for building the ultimate J30.

yeah, i just have to try to control myself and not let the "planned parts list" get anymore out of control. i have to try to keep it twin turbo and not open the motor.

i would like to get to this done this year and not daydream myself into a $20,000 parts list
