I have just purchased a CA18DET for my 71 510 and I was wondering what turbo I had on it? I know they come stock with a T25 but I think that it looks a little big for a T25 and I am no turbo expert. The turbo says Garrett A/R 60 M24 1-2. I just want to know what I got. If anyone has some info or can point me in the right direction, it would be much appreciated, thanks!

Congratulations you most likely have a S15 BB turbo aka GT28R (GT2560R).

The S15 turbos usually had the M24 1-2 markings on the compressor housing, while the S14 (identical to the S15 but only a few were ball bearing) had M24 1-1 on the compressor housing.

If you give us the serial number near the oil inlet we can let you know for sure exactly which one it is, but I believe its mostly a S15 turbo.

I take it your turbo looks like this.

I will take a picture and get a serial number if I can, thanks for your help so far. And my turbo looks similar to that but says 1-2.

Alright here is a pic of the turbo, it looks very similar to the one pictured above.

The serial reads as follows:

ZB 0105J1441-54C00465997-4A

Let me know its a winner, thanks!!

Pulsar or S14 turbine. Mine looks like that but I didn't have the port in the compressor housing for the boost signal. Either way score!

I am still curious if this is a ball bearing turbo or not?

nice, I'm 99.9% sure thats a GTi-R T28. Its a fun turbo I have one myself. Can you take a pic of the wastegate bracket? I wanna see if your bracket is modified.

The GTi-R T28 is a non ball bearing turbo and has a .86 A/R turbine housing. Many speculated that this would be laggy on the CA, nope the lag is comparable to a GT28R which I had before switching to the GTi-R T28. I like the GTi-R T28 more than the GT28R and its rebuildable if something goes wrong unlike the ball bearing turbos.

Heres a pic of my turbo as you can see they are 100% identical.

thats not a ball bearing T28 its a regular journal T28. I have the same turbo its from a Sunny GTi-R with the SR20DET.

The serial number he posted was missing a number its 14411-54C00 and if you just put that in google it clearly shows thats the part number for a Sunny GTi-R. Not to mention his serial number matches mine which I specifically ordered a GTi-R T28 turbo.

I'm guessing so that was a running engine that the turbo came off of, but I planned on upgradeing that stuff anyways.

Yeah you are right, the serials are exactly the same and my turbo looks identical to yours. I am happy now I don't have to buy that turbo. Thats the one I was looking at getting for an upgrade. The shaft has next to zero movement, and spins freely.

thats strange....because it has that bulge in the compressor housing where the housing itself bolts on, and as far as i knew that was to make room for the ball bearing cartridge. I dont know 100%, but mine had the same bulge, looked identical, and it used to keep spinning for like 30 seconds after i shut the car off...which i was told was charachteristic of ball bearing turbo.

I did do a little research on google and the part number is for a GTi-R, at least all of the places I found. I also checked with other forums. All have come up with GTi-R's do not have ball bearing turbos.

They also have 440's and alot of tourqe.

You will need tuning if you are not chipped.
