(this part is a fact)

Next model year PT Cruiser will have a turbo-charged model available.

(this part is speculation)

From what I have been led to believe... the Cruiser is based on a Neon chassis, suspension, and engine. If this is true, does this mean there might be a factory turbo Neon coming soon as well? I HATE trash cars... but it's even worse when they make them fast as hell!!

It'll have a whopping 180HP, I'll bet, and still be FWD. They are FWD, aren't they?

Bottom line, who cares.

I don't particularly care.... but I've been beaten by a Neon once (thank god it was a sleeper not a ricer)... and a 180hp FWD Neon would still out run my car... and they handle better than most people would assume. I agree that they are pretty much whored out, mass-produced pieces of s***.... but WHY does Dodge insist on making them fast out of the box? It's not fair!!!

Actually the Turbo PT will have 215 HP. My old roommate owns a shop that works on PT's. Most of the work is just to make it look better since the majority of buyers are older and much more conservative. But they have had turbo and supercharger kits since very soon after the first PT's were sold. Anyone who went to SEMA in Vegas the first year after it was introduced will know the PT had the biggest aftermarket support growth of any car I've ever seen. It's actually not a bad car. Quite versatile.

The Turbo Neon will also have 215 HP.

i've seen a neon run at an autox a couple times and it didn't do to bad. i don't know what was done to it, they sure didn't make it look better, but it ran good.

agreed, but you don't need to be fast for autox, just take the turns good.

Actually they are making a Turbo neon.. its been in the works for a few years now. Its coming out in spring sometime 2003.. expected is march. Engine is a 2.4 L turbo and its rated at 215 HP and 245 Lb ft of torque.. but on the dyno it spun a 223 hp and 250 lb ft of torque at the wheels. hits 0-60 in 5.8 seconds and will be sold for 19,995 and 1200 will be made. (no this is not a joke... real life facts and information) its called the neon SRT-4

They are also coming out with the Ram SRT-10 in the summer sometime... its a Ram 1500 powered by the 500HP viper V10.. it sits on light weight 24" magnesium wheels and is 1 bad *** truck.. saw it this weekend (drools)

That link that C-Kwik provided says it all;

because you can buy 6 neons or more with the price of a Viper. Needs vs Wants

I raced a viper the other night, smoked him to. He probably heard my rusty bee-bucket (stock f*cked up) exhaust and got scared so he turned instead of racing. haha actually I know the guy and drove the viper before, it was intense.

Contrary to popular belief, I think neon's are pretty good cars---Ever heard of the ACR? It's tremendously popular in showroom stock SCCA racing, as well as their actual road racing division--adjustable coil overs, four whel disks, etc etc. So many people wouldn't race and modify the neons in SCCA if they were a "****ty" platform. My sister did have a neon (totaled it last week,) and I liked how it handled, and it had absolutely phenomenal brakes, MUCH better than the 240, even though they had drums in the rear! When I was drivin her car, which i think is a pretty fun car to drive, I just thought how much better it would be to have a Neon with some pep. I would DEFINITELY buy a Neon SRT-4, especially if its cheaper than a WRX-i think they look better anyway. On a side note---what do you guys think of the NISSAN SE-R spec v? 175 Hp, 185 lb foot, 17" rims, 11" vented disks, 6 speed manual, variable valve timing, etc etc---Seems damn nice for $20k!!! Just think...if they kept making the 240sx, our Ka24DE would be a KA25DE (2.5 liter), with 175 HP stock! THat'd be really nice!

That neon is pretty insane, and they want the price below 20k. I think SCC said 223hp and 250lb-ft of torque TO THE WHEELS!!!!!!!! It was a prototype, but that's still more to the wheels than they originally said for flywheel. 14 PSI on a Mitsubishi 16G turbo. Close match w/ a WRX and a lot cheaper, but still fwd.....

Ummm...that would make the car a 250sx, not a 240...

Oh...and a POS Neon with coilovers and big brakes just makes it a big lowered turd that can stop fast.... you can put coilovers and big brakes on anything, your Tiburon or Kia or even your Daewoo... Remember even though you put a bunch of mods on POS, it is still a POS(including that crappy MOPAR paintjob)

The bottom line is the Neon is still a domestic POS. I would buy a WRX way before even considering buying american.

DUH-It would also be the KA25DE...Who cares if they called it a 240 with a 2.5 liter engine, or even a 250-the point is, it would still have a damn good amount of power to weight. I'd like to see you say that neon bashing at ANY scca road-race. 225 HP and 250 lb foot of torque would make any of our cars (stock) wish they were FWD , domestic POS's. 'nuff said.

Jemil--didn't see that you had a 300zx--I take that part about the Neon out powering your car any day-but it would to any 240sx. BTW--how the hell did you come across a free 300ZX?

My wife and I entered a car giveaway at a local car dealership...they had about 250 people there....they lined everyone up, had everyone pull a key out of a bag, and tried to start the car...my wife got in(she was number 9 in line) and the car started...or purred is more like it..we waited 2 hours in the sun..best sunburn I ever had...We then proceeded to take the car to the lake (it was labor day one year ago)---I love t-tops (even though they're kind of trashy---I think Burt Reynolds ruined that)

my car sounds so sweet... that Stillen Dual Tip cat back exhaust was 1100 dollars...$$$Its a freakin' mule though...the 2+2 model weighs in at a hefty 3400 lbs...and it LOVES that good ole 93 octane... drinks it up at 17 mpg

That's a damn nice car for free! I wish I had that kinda luck on my side! How many miles did you have when you got it? If I were you, I'd look into how much it costs to convert it to the twin turbo 300zx...Marc

It had 55k miles on it when we got it... not bad but I've put 18k miles on it since :(

It costs MAD money to upgrade the Z. Almost nobody does a tt conversion on the NA..especially the 2+2#1 Because the weight of the car#2 SGP Racing will do the conversion for 10,500..wtf? just buy another 300zx ttIt is WAY cheaper to sell the 300zx and buy a TT

Right now I am in the final process of selling her...I can get 14 g's for it. With that money, I am going to buy a 95 240sx, do an SR swap, tons of upgrades, and still have money left over to buy a new mattress set and washer/dryer combo...(my wife won't let me spend ALL the money on the car)

Perfect idea man, I don't see why everyone else doesn't have the same logic as you. Like all my stupid friends buying (or getting bought FOR them) 15K Civic Si's...for the same price, he could have an S14 Sr'ed with about 300 HP, which would waste any type of civic any day, handling or drag....I WISH i had that kinda money, I'd do the same thing you're doing. It would be SOO sweet to feel a nice 300RWHP 240sx that weighs 2700lbs--just imagine that thing rocketing out of corners...AHHHHHH

I saw a purple PT turbo the other day. In fact..that's the only color I ever see a PT in...and it's awful. I also read somewhere that Chrysler is making a convertable PT.....which will be ______.(fill in the blank)
