Hey all. I turned on the news (CNN) this morning before I left for work and there has been a massive 8.8 magnitude earthquake in Chili. There are now tsunami warnings for quite a few countries, reaching all the way to Russia. I'm looking for a list, and I'll update this when I find one. I just want to warn anyone living in the danger areas or anyone that knows someone living there.

http://www.cnn.com/2010/WORLD/...pt=T1

ok, found it. There is a list of cities and the initial arrival times as well.

The all clear for the Galapagos has been given but I haven't heard of anything else being given the all clear. I wonder how they can give it for some islands off the coast of Ecuador but not for anyone else?

This was the 5th biggest measured earthquake, ever.

The biggest being just a few hundred miles away in the same country.

It was a series of tidal surges, not gigantic rogue waves. Still, Hawaiians are very lucky, history has shown how lucky they really were.

Yeah, but imagine stirring the coffee in your cup over there and having tea water here pitch about in my cup. Quite a bit of energy in that earthquake.

The time they give is GMT... you live in eastern time, so just take the time they give you, subtract 6 hours, and that is the estimated impact time according to your local clock.

The GMT thing threw me off big time. I thought it was ET and told my friends in Ecuador based on that. Thank God nothing happened.

The beginning of 2012 must be here. 53 people are dead in Europe from killer storms.
