Saw it last night.

I went in expecting a sci fi action flick. I was not disapointed. I was actually very pleased with my $16 ticket purchase.

Don't get me wrong, it has its issues with acting, and maybe a little poor direction, but over all, I really liked it. Lately I have grown tired of hating everything, so I'm looking at the good. I can haz optimist.

What I liked. (No spoilers)
Olivia Wilde + skin tight leather + Imax 3D = WIN
Some really awesome fight scenes.
Some even better visual effects, plus 3D integration was pretty good.
A decent plot line.
And last but definitely not least, a score put together by Daft Punk, FTMFW.

Discuss.

Does the story mesh nicely with the previous Tron?

I'm looking forward to watching this.

I'm actually very foggy on the origanal story, its been at leat 10 years since I saw it. That being said, I'm not sure that it did. I feel like its almost more of a remake, but then again I could be way off.

I saw it last night with my son. LOVED IT.

It's not a remake at all. It's more of a continuation of the story. Flynn actually trying to do more after seeing how things worked in the Grid.

I have loved Tron since I was a kid and this movie was actually well done in my opinion.

The new Recognizers were friggan cool, as were the Light Cycles.

The movie was awesome. They added so much for the fans of the original and brought in a whole new generation of fans. I can't wait for the third movie thats in talks now.

See that is what I was thinking originally, but then I started thinking, I thought the guy got out in the end, not trapped. To be honest I didnt put much thought into it. Im going to rewatch the first one, then go see legacy again. As soon as I can find a copy of the original.

I had gotten so used to 13 being grumpy all the time, seeing her so happy and bubbly during her first few scenes in the movie was interesting. The happy fits her well, and for some reason, that haircut rocks my world.

I loved it. SO MUCH.

Being a huge Daft Punk fan and an appreciator of CG probably played a role.

Deidra and I saw it at imax 3D and loved it. I really loved how they didn't use the 3D as a chance to go "ZOMG LOOK AT THE 3D!" It was just an aspect for immersion to the production crew. I also loved the juxtaposition of the real world and the grid through the use of 3D.

For anyone that wants to listen to the soundtrick right meow, this guy on youtube has the whole thing uploaded and already on a playlist for continuous play. I did not turn this man's playlist off at all yesterday.

I am really disappointed with the critics' reviews of the movie. They all give it lavish comments, then knock the plot for being shallow. And that one knock is enough to excuse them for a low review for what I would call a really good film. The original's story was pretty crappy if you ask me (I mean, did you SEE the MCP??), and while there were a few threads left dangling in the new iteration, I felt it had quite a jump over the old one in terms of story.

No doubt. The soundtrack was FTMFW. I really need to buy it.

The scene where they were DJing was awesome. I dont think most people got it, but I did, and that made it extra fun.

The club scene was just a cameo. Only people who know of Daft Punk would recognize them TBH.

yea, thats why I thought it was awesome. They played a decent role in the making of the film, and they got a little shot in the movie.

My thoughts exactly. I think Im going to see it again. Take my wife this time, she should enjoy it. I wanted to pre screen it first so I wouldnt subject her to it unless it was watchable by someone other than giant nerds.

This is another one of the high points of the movie for me. It has mass market appeal, without dumbing itself down. That is a big cookie to swallow, but I think they managed it very well.

I'd never guessed his name was Olivia. Maybe it's Oliver and there was a typo in the credits. :poke: :lolling:

I had my reservations about the movie, but given some of the reviews here I might give it a chance. Now if I could only find my Intellivision and a copy of Tron: Deadly Discs!

You should ban yourself for posting that. I think one week should do. Enjoy your vacation. :chuckle:

Seriously though, go see it.

I was playing that with the kids the other day, along with Maze-a-Tron and Tron Solar Sailor! I love my old systems

And concerning the movie, **Mild Spoiler**

Anyone else notice Dillinger's son in the board room at the beginning of the Encom meeting? Nice touch, and now they can lead into a confrontation in the next movie. Dillinger/Sark was the main bad guy in the last one for those who weren't aware. Maybe he'll restart the MCP?

Also the garage Sam was in when Alan was talking to him had the name "Dumont" on the outer door. A nod to one of the programs that was on the grid in the first movie, the tower guardian to be specific.

Just got back from seeing it. It was freaking epic! Awesome fight scenes, awesome visuals, and very well done. It's been a LONG time since I've seen the original. Definitely gonna have to watch it and then go see Legacy again.

It is definitely ranked way up there on my list of favorite movies.

Flynn did get out at the end of the original. I'm not sure of the exact time frame but Tron: Legacy is set a few years after the end of Tron. Flynn wasn't married nor did he have a child in the original. He kept going back in to set up a new "perfect" Grid.

The video games that were released (as well as some books) explain all the gaps.

Thanks, that helps a little. I think that Sam's mom died in '85(?) and he was maybe 2 years old? (I think he said he was 27 in the movie but I don't remember) I am assuming that Sam was 6 or 7 when Kevin disappeared putting the first part of the movie as being circa 1990 possibly, a full 8 years after the events of the original.

(I haven't read any of the books or played the other games)

The original movie was great because it was kitchy. This movie has the same flaws as the original but lacks the kitch.

3 out of 10 stars.

1 for Olivia Wylde, 1 for embedded homages to the original film, and one for Daft Punk.

Saw it on Thursday, right after I had watched a crappy copy of the original.
I love this movie.
I will probably go see it again in the theatre (no 3D, my eyes can't take that).
I've heard of 2 people now who have wondered about Flynn, thinking "I thought he got out at the end of the original". I found no issues with following the time frame of these movies.

BTW, I have seen TronGuy in person- he is just as nerdy as you would believe from his pictures. But according to his website, he is a pilot- so that's an element of cool, right?
