Did they make Grand Nationals in 1986? Those were turbo, and I guess they were sorta coupes. They are also big, wrathful, evil machines, so there could be something to this, if they were made in 1986 that is.

Other 1986 Turbo Coupes:RX-7 Turbo IIMk. III Supra Turbo

My best guess on the 32psi is that he could be screwing with you. After all, we're all under 17psi of air pressure to begin with just by being on the earth's surface, so maybe it's a sneaky way of saying 15psi, lol.

But in all reality, I'm sure he's just an idiot.

My smart%&# reply:

I could beat that kid any one of you with my 85 CRX running 100lbs of boost and a flux capacitor!

Sorry, had to make that joke.

Btw, I have read that some Formula 1 Grand Prix cars HAVE run 100+psi in the past.

the kid is still insisting that his 32psi will blow away any car. He says its stock motor. I told him about how a guy i knew(cyberkreig, i didnt say it was you Joe so since you dont want anyone knowing) has a enw turbo that can put down an easy 300whp. and i quote from the kid "That's nothing ill blow it away 15psi...."

I believe what the kid is talking about when he says an 86 turbo coupe is putting a turbo on an 86 mustang coupe with a built 302 or 351 and some of those guys run 30 psi with a very low compression motor and built to the extreme. There are a couple of fast guys down here in georgia with twin and single turbo setups on those motors in those year cars but most are tube chasis 10.50 class cars that only run 1/8 mile, not street cars. Tell the kid or show him this post that whenever he wants to run someone at 30 psi in a street car(not tube chassis) that i will have no problem meeting him halfway and taking his money!!!!!!!!!!!!!!hehehehehe

He's obviously full of ****. And I'm almost positive hes talking about the Thunderbird Turbo Coupe and not a supra or an RX-7. They are very quite cars though and shouldnt be underestimated even with the stock turbo in place. I was going to buy one before I saw my 240sx and I test drove it. It did have a better turbo in place and the boost gauge read 23 psi on stock intercooler and nothing done to the internals. Those cars are very quick for what they seem. But I also drove an 88 with an intercooler. The earlier ones didnt have them, so anything past about 15psi shouldnt be attempted. But sadly if he does end up with that car and does have any knowledge on how to turn up the boost, he could give you a hard time.

32 psi on stock internals with the stock turbo would either blow the headgasket, or make the engine knock itself to pieces.

32 psi? Sure buddy. Sounds like this kid's been reading too many Super Street magazines and playing too many video games without doing any actual research on how cars really work. If he's not even old enough to drive, I wouldn't give too much credit to the **** that comes out of his mouth. Still young and ignorant.

why you even bother with this person? You seriously have no reason to prove your point to him if he's not goign to feed on it.

just pat him on the back next time, "that's right steve, WHEN you get your car" and you give him the nastiest smile the kid has ever seen.

I wouldn't worry so much about what he may or may not be driving. Fact of life: for 99.9999999% percent of us, someone will always have a faster car.

The *** crumb your talking about in this thread probably won't, but in the end I wouldn't waste mental energy on it.

Loveless hit it right on the mark...just humor the guy. Eventually he'll show up in something like a beat up Geo Prizm and then you can mock him.

^^ My sentiments exactly.

And yeah, let the kid keep thinking it'll be badass. Then when he goes and races a real car, acting all cocky, he'll get his punkass whupped and everyone will hate him for being a prick and he'll be out of all your hair.

Or I could race him in my dad's A34.

And yeah, I'm pretty sure they made Grand Nationals then. But they were known as GNX's at that point. Maybe the kid is talking about a Corrolla GTS AE86. Maybe he watched too much Initial D.

yes, this guy is most likely referring to a t-bird TC. this is a popular engine swap to rangers, so i know a thing or two about them. they run about 180hp on i BELIEVE 10psi. the max on stock internals is 15psi, and thats if you are very careful. its only a 2.3L (same displacement as my ranger), with an intercooled IHI turbo on it. (86 MAY have had a T3, but i think that was only on the Mustang SVO). but yeah, there is NO WAY you can run 32psi on that motor, without making the block out of something much stronger than whatever its made out of (iron, i think).

yep, those lil engines are capable of hp exceeding 450 on stock internals. forced induction puts a little more wear on them, and pistons and rods will need to be replaced if you are going over 15psi

yeah, IHI turbo and sohc 2.3l, my friend swapped one into his fb rx7. the motor is supposedly pretty solid, but it is a ford. tell that little $hit to **** off. he's probably all talk anyway.

my theory is when anyone talks about doing anything turbo, 90% of the time it'll never happen.

he started talking again when he was talkin about his brothers charger and the fastest car we've ever been in, and i told him the fastest cars i ever rode in was Joe(cyberkreig from this board) and a 9second crx

and he began bashing again with this "it idles at 12psi and full boost at 30psi and 500whp"

first of all. If he doesn't even know the name of the car he's just bashin the 240. And second IF he's gona say HIS car can beat your car tell him you already have him beat because you already have a drivers licence.Thats what i'd tell him, but then again, thats just me.so long for now Ed
