The same guy working this new x-ray machine part-time at the airport is the same guy working at the local XXX video store full-time in the late night hours.

Only you would make that leap.

On a side note, I don't like the idea, but not because of the reason you're thinking. I don't like it because it's a slippery slope.

Next up will be scanners outside sporting events... concerts... shopping malls... grocery stores.... on public transit.... when does it end?

I don't want a bunch of X-rays or gamma radiation infiltrating me like that if I can help it. It's just one dose after another.

That's so last century. They are in power now. Now it's "abuse the power before we lose the power."

Has anyone felt the wrath of the new pat down? I've flown to and from PHX twice since Nov1 and it not a good feeling. I find that most travelers are avoiding the new scanners atleast in Phoenix :dblthumb:

I'll walk through a scanner before I let some dude touch my package.

I'm in reasonably good shape, I don't mind if they see my nekkidness.

Besides, I got some metal in me that probably looks cool as hell in the scanner.

How about a separate airline that has NO security as an option? Let the market decide.

I'm sure there are many who would.

But that's not the problem. We don't care if there are people who wouldn't mind putitng their own lives at extra risk. It's the 3,000 people in two skyscrapers who didn't elect to get on a no-security airline that's the problem.

Agreed, those pictures are painful every time.

I wasn't under the influence when I posted that :P just an interesting proposition for those who think that a body scanner or pat down is too much.

:frown:

Unfortunately, the alternative is finding another mode of transportation. The Libertarian in me says, "Drive to your destination." The realist knows it's not that simple, not as safe, can cost more and excludes international travel.

The REAL solution is barbaric and runs counter to our position as a benevolent, and oft-abused, superpower... and as such, won't be discussed. :(

I like the El Al approach.

Search every bag, and give every passenger a short interview. If something doesn't smell right, you then take them off for further screening.

I'd roll with that.

Problem: TSA workers aren't that smart / perceptive. To get people with good "sniffers", you need to pay them. And train them.

But we have a spending problem? ;)

We have a lot more passengers than El Al, it's true. But I think that payment and training is possible.

Bait not taken. :)

I think you're right.

Ditch the stewards / stewardesses - they don't do s*** anyway but take up extra seats.

I saw a segment on El Al, their agents have to go to school specifically to be security agents. When the government attempts to field test these agents by sneaking on fake explosives or such, the agents are fired on the spot if they fail to act.

Ditto.

Ditch all the stewardesses and replace them with Air Marshals.

They can bring me a soda and put 3 silenced rounds into anyone who decides to get frisky with a goddam boxcutter on my flight.
