I recently put my 2001 Pathfinder (2WD) in the shop because I found a red liquid dripping from an electrical line on the underside, located directly beneath the front passenger seat. The Mechanic said it was transmission fluid coming from the "transmission turbine revolution sensor" and that the entire part must be replaced. Is this realistic to the tune of $700?Thanks. (PS-I like this icon (wtf)!)

I'm a Nissan Mechanic and I'm not sure how much that part is but 7 bills seems excessive. I would only charge about 1.5 hours for that job. My shops labor is 80.00/hr so that's only 120.00 which would mean they are charging 580.00 for that part which I seriously do not think they cost that much. I think you might be getting the bone dude.

Nismo, thanks for your response! I kinda think your right!

I spoke to the service manager yesterday and he told me that they had to drop the transmission to repair this part. He agreed to give me a 15% discount which drops it to $600 basically. But as I understand it, the fact that the transmission must be dropped is where all the labor comes in. Is this part the same thing as a speed sensor (which indicates when the transmission should shift)?

I think I am the first to figure this problem out. About 1.5 years ago I ran into funny problem codes and this same stalling problem. I took it in 3 times to the same Nissan Dealership and they couldnt' figure it out. They kept giving me new "fixes" to try. I finally took it to an independent repair place and the guy figured it out. The Turbine Revolution Sensor on top of your Transmission is probably faulty and is leaking transmission fluid through it. Because of this leak, you will probably get funny problem codes down the road here. The transmission fluid flowd down the wiring harness of this sensor into a whole host of other harnesses, triggering Intake sensor issues, O2 sensor issues, etc. The stalling is due to the low transmission fluid. Check your transmission fluid. If it's low, then fill it up. Your problem should go away. Good luck. Let me know if this fixes the problem. BTW, the metal housing blocks the visibility of the transmission fluid on the ground until the leak gets severe, like mine did. Good luck and please repost to let me know.

~Blessings.

jliaou, sorry it took me a while to reply.

The problem you are describing sounds just like mine. Didn't have any code problems that I am aware of, but was having some other electrical issues and a ton of fluid on the floor of my garage. I pulled that guard plate myself and still couldn't find the leak because of the fact that it was on top of the transmission. There was indeed a leak at the the sensor. The dealer wanted to charge $700 to fix. I was not pleased. Managed to get a 10% discount though. Better than nothing. Take care.

Is this sensor on a 98 pathfinder 4x4 Automatic? And where can i get one. I cant find one from oriely's so I imagine it is a dealer item only! I am throwing the p0720 code and have replaced the output shaft speed sensor and still have the same code. The wiring was checked by an automotive electric tech and found nothing. I am getting a lot of transmission fluid leaking. This made me think of the turbine speed sensor. I get o2 sensor codes intermitently and shift slippage so I imagine the trans fluid is causing the o2 sensor to be faulty when the fluid runs to it and the shift slippage is from the faulty turbine speed sensor. Any help on this would be great. Thank you
