would a transmission from a KA engine fit an SR engine?

or do you have to buy a completely new transmission if you got a sr swap?

most swaps come with the sr transmission which fits perfectly in all s13's and s14's

It's rare to get a motorset without a trans. But in the rare case, you can use a KA trans, but the bellhousing bolt pattern is different. So to use the transmission, you have to swap out the bellhousings.

I've seen SR transes on eBay off and on, but the price is always hit or miss I think.

Also, the transmissions are pretty much swappable between generations. I've put an S13 trans in an s14 chassis, and I mated an S14 KA gearbox and trans case to an S13 bellhousing.

dood, if you havent bought your auto yet I would say hold out.

From somebody who has owned both an auto and standard KA series (auto was KA24DE, and manual KA24E) and now the SR20 I would say wait till you can find a decent manual, especially if you have little sr20 thought bubbles above your head. Doing an auto to manual swap is just an extra expense and stress that you don't want to have to deal with. It can be done, but why wouldn't you avoid it if you could?

Besides all that, my DOHC automatic had all the basics (Intake/Header/Exhaust, spark plugs/wires etc.) and it still didnt have much gain (if any) on the manual before the engine swap.

Stick FTW!

Oh man am I glad I saw this thread. My SR transmission just took a dump on me and I recently got a 240SX as a parts car. I was wondering it I could use the KA transmission in it.

So all I have to do is swap the bellhousing and it will fit right?Woo, life isn't that bad. Or is it?

Oh, what happened to my SR transmission?

It would grind slightly going into fifth no matter what, and it wouldn't go into reverse. I'd have to pump the clutch pedal and yank it into reverse.so last night I'm cruising and I go into fifth, come off the clutch and car revs up. no fifth gear. I guess reverse went out the same time. This morning I go to back out of the carport, put it in reverse, car revs, no reverse. So I put it into first, let out the pedal, car stalls. put it in neutral, come off the pedal, car stalls. Put it back in first, rev it up, let off the pedal super slow, car stalls. CRAP.

sounds like she has gone to JDM transmission heaven.

That sucks man. I have heard of people using the KA transmission but never actually seen it done. I was also told that just the bell housing needed to be swapped.

im in the middle of swapping bellhousings for my sr transmission.. i'm in the process of trying to get the KA one off.... I have undone all bolts that connect the housing to the actual transmission... taken off the C clip and snap ring from the shaft.. now what the heck do I do.. I have pried it loose but it seems like it won't come all the way off.. have I missed something.. ?

as long as u took the big c clip off of the main shaft that comes out of the transmission, it should just pry right off.
