Hey there
I'm a new member to this site, even tho I have been reading threads here for months now.
Ok, so my problem has to do with my transmission. When I start my car and put it in gear right away it goes with no problem. But then after about 3 blocks it feels like my transmission slips and my car will rev but it will not go. So I put in in neutral, turn it off for a sec and turn it back on put it in drive and it'll go for another 3 or so blocks. I've talked to multiple people who have all had there own oppinion. The only one I have tested so far is the "it's deffinately a bad A/T computer." Well after spending $75 on a computer.. It's deffinately NOT a bad computer. Haha. I was offered a transmission from a buddy for $450 and was considering just getting it seeing that noone thus far knows what's wrong. Any suggestions? Or can you tell me what's wrong? I know swimshark and yoda are very knowledgable so if y'all have any info please help. Thanks

Is your car revving but not changing gears? If so, that is a classic symptom of a rev sensor failing or failed.

Sorry I didn't mention your name up top, I've read alot of your stuff and have learned alot from you.
When it does it's slipping deal and I put some gas to it, it's revs but doesn't go anywhere. It will shift gears until it "slips". it's shifts fine. But The highest I got it to is second because it's seems like the harder I press the gas the faster it wants to slip. Oh yea I have also flushed the oil and changed the filter.
Thanks for the fast reply

Also, the response time when I press down hard is terrible

Run the transmission self diagnostic test as per the directions in this thread:

I just tried the test and there were no extended flashes. The AT check light came on for about a second or two then it flashed 11 times just like it said, but every flash was the same. I ran it twice just to be sure. A mechanic said he was going to do that for me for $85. So thanks for saving me money on my own stupidity. I had no clue that's what you had to do. The way he made it soun was as if you had to hook it up to something.
Also I did not mention that there is a squeeling noise coming for under the hood. This squeeling is the loudest when in park or nuetral. It isn't that loud in reverse and you almost can't hear it in any other gear. I plan on getting some sort of mechanic stethascope or pipe to see if I can locate it.
Thanks for your help so far. Any more suggestion on what I should try next would be great

Have you double check the transmission fluid level after warmed up on a flat surface ??
Also you mentioned a transmission flush.
Was this issue going on before the flush ?? Or start up after ?
Also you need to be sure the in radiator transmission cooler isn't clogged up.

This problem happened before the flush. I did the flush in an attempt to fix it. I checked the fluid again but I can do it again when I get home. So how would I go about making sure it isn't clogged?

That link to the fuzzycats site has a How too.
If it's clogging up it will starve the transmission of fluid.
Not a good thing.
I clean mine out about once every two years.
Haven t cleaned the additional B&M cooler yet, but its only about a year old.
What color was the fluid that drained out when you started the flush ?
Pinkish or brown ?

I didn't even see the link there, thank you. I'll check it when I get off work.
The fluid was dark, and probably the main reason for that was the previous owner had the car for about 80,000 miles and never changed it once.

The pan was just full of junk. I didn't really examine it that much because I was of course expecting it to be really bad. But as far as the coolant cleaner goes, I was wonder where to get it. I went to auto zone and they said they've never even heard of that kind of flush. So then I looked on advance auto parts website and they had some for $8.99 but when I called, the lady said I would have to order off there site because it's not a product they keep on the shelves. So before I order it online and have to wait about a week to get, I thought I'd ask you guys where you get yours

You can also pick up the cooler cleaner at any Nissan dealer. It isn't that expensive.

@yoda that's what I was thinking. I know someone that will sell me one for $450 and I know it's a good price but I'm roughly $200 short at the moment.
@driver I'll most likely pick some up tonight if there still open. And even if that isn't the problem right now I can always just put my old cooler on a new transmission seeing as it's gonna be freshly cleaned out, right? Lol

if it just free revs after 2nd it sounds similar to the problem i had. mine wouldnt lock up in 3rd or od. i tried replacing the rev sensor but it didnt fix mine. try the flush and see if you can get it working that way. i cant really tell you what will fix cause i didnt take conventional route and did a manual swap instead. swapping the auto trans should only take a good days work if it does come to that.

I'd love to turn mine into a manual but after reading about all the fab work that's needs to be done I think I'll pass. Lol. But I'm getting paid next Friday so I'm hoping I can get the new transmission and get it done that weekend or else I'll have to wait until after my vacation :0 but any more suggestions on what I could try next would be good. The flush is goin down this weekend. I'll let y'all know how it goes

you can try rev sensor after the flush if no change but its a $160 part (or it was from Infiniti dealership here in Marietta, GA). and if it doesnt work you cant return it cause its an electronic part so all you can do then is sell it. up to you. either rev sensor or just replace trans.

Ok, I did the flush last weekend and nothing. Still does the same thing.
I ended up having to reschedule my vacation from this weekend to some time next month. So the transmission swap is gonna be a go as soon as I talk myself out of going manual. I really want it, but I'm almost possitive it's something that would be too time consuming for me. How long did it take you to do it swimshark?

just find a good auto and a few friends only takes about 5 hours to swap them out if you get a used transmission pull the pan before you pay for it and make sure it looks good. no chunks of stuff or excessive metal shavings

Even if it took shark 10 hours to do it, I'm willing to put in a good week of work on it. But if he says it took him about a week then I'll deff go with the a/t lol. But the conversion seems pretty straight forward, any unexpected thing I would run into? Can someone give me a quick run through of everything I would have to do?
Thanks for the tip Tex. Didn't even think about that. I guess I chose the correct username!
